how to replace C1402 ignition coil

Changing coils 1,3 or five require removing the intake manifold. Changing coils 2,4 and 6 are very easy.
You remove the air cleaner box (the bottom has a nipple that sticks into a grommet on the block tightly) and you will expose the coils.
The following link from the stickies at the top of this forum shows how to change the spark plugs. The third picture shows the even numbered coils with the right most one the #6 coil.

Unplug the coil, remove the bolt and it will come out.
You don't say how or why you've determined that it is bad. It might have oil in the plug socket. You can swap 4 and six and see if the misfire moves. Confirming a bad coil.

Gary, welcome to the Forums. You will find that we take care of each other here and we have fixes for just about anything that the car can toss at you.
As for the cylinder numbering, this is pretty easy. Open the hood and stand by the front passenger wheel (in your case). You are now standing at what is referred to as the "front of the engine". You will see the serpentine belt right there in front of you. On the side of the motor nearest the front bumper, the cylinder nearest you is the #2 cylinder with the next one on that side being #4 and finally #6 cylinder as far from you as possible. If yolook at the side of the engine nearest the firewall, the cylinder nearest you is #1, with #3 in the middle, and #5 being the one furthest from you (near the master brake cylinder). Unfortunately, to access #1/3/5 coils, you will need to remove the top half of the intake. Now, don't fret, this is pretty easy. Takes about 30 minutes to do if you are taking your time and you know where the bolts are. If you need directions, let me know. I can tell you where every bolt is.
As for the horror stories, most have been blown out of proportion. Every car has its issues. Other than maybe the early cars having issues with the transfer cases, the other issues are pretty simple to deal with. Smile, ride around in style as others wonder how you can afford "such and expensive car".
If you need anything, let me know. If you are near Southern Maryland and don't mind a little drive, I would tell you to come over and I will impart what I know about the car and we can get anything done that you need.

Gary: Welcome to the forum. You'll find lots of help here.
Auto makers have different numbering conventions for engine cylinders, so even veterans need to check a reference guide when working on different cars.
I added the X-Type cylinder numbers to one of Dennis' pictures:
+ Bank 1 is on the firewall / passenger compartment side. It contains:
------ Cylinder #1 on the US passenger side
------ Cylinder #3 in the middle
------ Cylinder #5 on the US driver side, closest to the coolant reservoir
+ Bank 2 is on the radiator side. It contains:
------ Cylinder #2 on the US passenger side, closest to the oil fill port
------ Cylinder #4 in the middle
------ Cylinder #6 on the US driver side, closest to the battery
Give a shout if you have more questions. It's reassuring to know other X-Type owners have already done the same repairs and are willing to share their experience.

Been trying to find a 2004 X-Type engine control module. Can you get after market high performance module's? Can you get them period. Do you have to have a Jaguar specialist install them if you can find one. I am a novices with this car, I really like it but I am starting to have second thoughts.
Anyone help!!
PS
Thanks to all who helped with my ignition coil replacement!!!

Gary, it seems to me there was one company offering an "upgraded" ECU. But, if I remember right, it was one of the piggy back ones and those that got it said that for the money, it did very little. Keep in mind that our ECU's are already pretty tweaked out and already have the timing advanced to try and net more power (hence why it is recommended you run premium fuel, otherwise the timing gets retarded slightly to allow running lower octane fuel).
So, in short, if you are expecting a decent gain from a new computer, I think you are going to be wanting more.

I have an 05 x-type that has a fault code for the #1 cylinder misfire and excess fuel vapor in the catalytic converter. My hope is the catalytic converter code will clear when I replace the ignition coil.
My question is where can I find the torque values and tightening sequence of the manifold bolts when reinstalling the plenum chamber.
