Hey Loaks, so looks like you need a new battery huh?
I remember having seen the odd post here n there about replacement batteries, which ones are best, where to get them and best price etc etc, but NOT any definitive threads on this as far as I can remember.
Probably sumthin that badly needs addressed.
In fact it'd be great if any / all members with experience of shopping around for / buying a battery could add their thoughtsto the dedicated thread I've createdand we could then make it FAQ for use by ALL.

I just had a battery replaced, most likely you're batter will be $100+ depending where you shop at, I got myself a DURALAST w/ Lifetime Warranty from Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts cant remember. Battery is a batter, you dont need any special JAGUAR Battery ahahahahahha Make sure you get one with lifetime warranty.

Jim, I work around batteries. On a submarine, the battery I deal with is capable of powering a small town. So, here is a few links that will get people going in the right direction.

In short, all batteries sold in the US are made by 1 of 3 manufacturers. The only difference is the sticker that you have on the outside of the case. The only exception to this is the spiral wound batteries made by Optima. These are made with a different technology which from my experience in talking with people, don't provide any better performance than a standard lead-acid battery. If anything, my data collection shows the spiral batteries have a shorter life. The only advantage to the spiral batteries is that you can mount them in any position you want, vice being forced to have them straight up and down like a lead acid battery. Keep in mind that this assumes you are talking about a standard "starting" battery. There's a few other types of batteris out there (deep cycle and marine). But, for 99.9% of the people here, all they need is a starting battery. The marine and deep cycles require additional maintenance done on them to ensure maximum life.
The PDF file has all sorts of information in it on how to charge a battery, tests for proving a battery good, etc. It is put out by Exide. So, the data isn't some Joe Schmoe saying something.
As for the battery style needed for our Jags, the 02-03 X-types require a Type 92 battery. The 04-05 cars require a Type 94R battery. The 07+ cars require a Type 47 battery. If you go to any auto parts store, if you find a battery that is the correct "Type", it will fit in your car, regardless of who makes it. The other number you need to be aware of is the CCA (cold cranking amps). For our cars, the minimum recommended is 720 CCA. Going with a battery with a larger CCA rating is fine, but you may be over purchasing as the more CCA doesn't make the car start better. Only means that you normally have a longer time to run stuff before the battery is dead (it is not good to fully discharge a starting type battery, hence the deep cycle and marine style batteries).
If you have more questions, just ask. I know a thing or two about batteries. I also design dual battery setups for those desiring to run their stereos with the motor off.

The defintion of CCA is as follows:
Cold Cranking Amps is a rating used in the battery industry to define a batteries ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. The rating is the number of amps a new, fully charged battery can deliver at 0°F (-18°C) for 30 seconds, while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts, for a 12 volt battery. The higher the CCA rating, the greater the starting power of the battery.
You are confusing CCA with RC-reserve capacity. RC is the measure of how long you can run stuff. You can see it on Dennis' battery pic. His has a RC of 130 minutes.
Also from your info, you said a 94R has a CCA of 720 but the one Dennis has is only 650 and he claims more power in all catagories???

I won't even ask for what fits at a parts store. Measure your battery box and battery, note the location of the terminals, note the CCA of OEM battery. Take tape measure to the store, measure to fit. Once you have noted acceptable batteries that will fit the space, then you can price compare and CCA/warranty, etc compare and make a decision.
You can apply this logic to any vehicle. I've done it for years with no trouble.
I will vouch for an Optima Battery. My Jeep is abused on and off road. The Optima (red top)has lasted twice as long as the normal batteries. More resistant to vibration. A red top is not a "deep cycle" battery, but it will meet most auto applications. If you want deep cycle, perhaps for a car that sits for long periods without activity, go with a yellow top.
You'll pay more, but won't have to worry about it.
I believe Deka batteries are recommended for Jaguars, FWIW. When the front end of my X was rebuilt this summer, the body shop threw a NAPA in there. Works fine.

The beauty of the Optima..is that they can be turned upside down and no electrolyte will come out..it is held in absorbant glass matting..That is why the Optima is ideal for off road vehicles that tend to play at angles that would normally spill ordinary Lead acid batteries.

JagXV6, as a general rule, batteries with larger CCA ratings are physically bigger in size to accommodate the larger plates. Due to larger plates, this puts a larger reserve capacity to the battery. The two numbers are relative to each other when looking at a specific type of battery. Keep in mind that the spiral wound batteries will have a relatively lower reserve capacity for a given CCA rating than a lead acid battery.

IIRC..the original Battery was 610 CCA, I maybe off a little, but I remember it was lower than 650 CCA on this new Bosch.
CCA = Cold Cranking Amps
RC = Recharge Time

The battery that came with my X from the factory was one of the leaky ones. Replaced by the dealership with an Interstate. That supports the theory that if it fits, has sufficient power and is oriented properly it should not matter what brand it is. Luckily it has 850 CCA. Good to go for last three winters.

whoooooaaaaa........slow dow. looks like i got somethin started
. good thing is i know most of the things you are talkin bout already (lot of people don't so i am glad this got started) i'm more concerned with brands and prices. found that a direct replacement from carquest is $203, as in no thanks. lookin for a general idea of what people got that is on the lower end of the money but same cca or more. what have you had luck out of. last one i bought was like 3 years ago for the dodge and it was cheap, but the dodge doesn't have the electronic this and powered that.

There is a common problem with X-Type batteries, at least in my area,but I haven't seen many posts about it so here goes. If you look at your battery and the negative cable end where it is attached to the battery is badly corroded there is usually a crack in the battery case that is easily seen near the negative post. The battery then leaks electrolyte and corrodes the crap out of the cable. Cleaning doesn't always work because the corrossion migrates up the cable and gets under the insulation. Replace the negative cable if you see any signs of this problem. When you put the new battery in pull all the slack you can on the negative cable towards the batteryto try to relieve the stress on the negative post. I'm not certain it helps but it's cheap and I do it every time I have a battery box open. Also you have probably noticed X-Types are hard to jump start, it just doesn't seem to work. It will help if you connect the negative jumper cable to the engine or trans, they usually jump easily that way. I know that's the way it's supposed to be done but many people put the cables on the battery any ways, especially tow truck drivers and roadside assistors.
Being at the dealer I use Jaguar Varta batteries exclusively or the Jaguar Interstate batteries available locally in the states so I can't make recommendations there. I've seen plenty of aftermarket batteries installed and the biggest problem seems to be the height of the battery. They are usually too short and the threads are used up on the hold downs before they actually become tight.

is to START the car. After that you are running off the alternator and is sized (hopefully)
accodingly to the power requirements of the vehicle.

This is probably the only time I'm going to have something good to say about the dealership in Omaha that replaced my battery in Sep 07. After seeing some of the prices that some of you have quoted from dealerships and even local auto parts stores for direct replacement batteries in your X-types I guess I got a fairly good deal on mine @ $146.41 even though at the time I thought it was a rip off. However, Ididn't have them perform any of the other services they said the car needed.
