Ignition key stuck

Ignition key stuck
I have a 2004 X Type and have a stuck ignition key. I need to remove the cylinder lock for replacement but am unable to depress the "lock indent" for removal. The key appears to be stuck in the position 1 which is where it is supposed to be for removal yet I still can not depress the "lock indent". How can I get te cylinder out at this point?

Hi Jyasment,
The ignition may be clinging to the key if your gearbox is still sensing it is in "DRIVE".
Have you looked at the parkbrake or the J-Gate, it may be that the gear selector is just off, maybe a wiggle will help?
I have heard of this post which may help, I am thinking something is loose or "in the wrong place", but I am guessing, hope this helps?

My personal theory is something unwanted has fallen into or down in the J-Gate area like an odd key or some item (chewing gum wrapper or parking ticket??)that may be obstructing the gears, handbrake or park mode and it is therefore blocking a signal to disengage the electric signal?
GOOD LUCK! Regards, Stu

Success
I was able to get the cylinder lock out after i removed the solenoid on the left side of steering column which interacts with the cylinder lock. I could then wiggle the stab and get the cylinder to spin to the correct position to allow me to depress the detent and remove the cylinder. YEA... now I can purchase a new cylinder lock & key for replacement.
Thanks to Stuart for his input which did help me move forward.
