Install Heated Seats

Install Heated Seats
I was curious to see if anyone has installed heated seats in their x-type? I found some kits out on the internet for $100 per seat and come with everything from the buttons to the harness - even instrauction on removing just enough of the seat cover to slide the element onto the seat and backrest. I really would like to go the Jaguar route hoping that the wiring infrastructure is already in the car and all I would have to do is plug everything in - anyone know if we have the capability in a non-heated seat X?

RE: Install Heated Seats
My car was advertised as having heated seats - it was on the dealer paperwork. I didn't think much of it, then realized that it didn't have the buttons after all the paperwork was signed. I got the dealer to cut off a nice chunk of $$ rather than install and aftermarket heated seat.
My car is a southern US car, so I suppose there was no need for the cold weather package.

RE: Install Heated Seats
I went to X-Daves house in the summer.
The cost of fitting OE heated seats is astronomical (if going OE its a different foam to base and back of each seat, switches, wiring, modules for each seat heater etc etc).
He fitted heated seats kit to his from waeco.co.uk.I bought a kit for £45 and am now just waiting for the module he was manufacturing to allow the pads to work with the OE switches although he is having difficulty so I was jsut going to fit the supplied switches and also fit a kit in the rear too.
Heres the guide:-

Havent heard form x-dave for a while now I think he was in hospital and has been quiet on all forums for a while

RE: Install Heated Seats
I read thru the posts and Dave seems like he was dedicated to help you out Buck, but his health certainly comes first, so I don't blame him. I found some places that were like $2-300 dollars for the parts. Jaguar is very expensive but not sure of the quality differences. I would imagine the labor would also be very expensive, but I have seen seat covers come off on the speed channel. (So that makes me an expert - not) I would definitely do the install mayself and maybe do the rears down the road. In the Dave posts I read that there was some kind of foam insert from Jaguar, most of the aftermarket seem to be some kind of plastic mesh sheet that needs to be inserted. I might be a little concerned that the heat would damage the leather, but still cant be worse that what the sun does to the interior on a summer day...

i have seen the rear seats done somewhere on here... i think that would be a nice feature, even though i never have anyone in the back seat.

The difference with the seat pad inserts is that the heated seat ones have cut outs for the elements the non heated seats dont.
The module Dave was trying to get right was to act the same as the Jag one where it turns the seats off after a certain time and has the 2 stage heating too operated from OE Jag switches on the dash
