Default iSimple IS32 Install - Advice/Ideas Needed

Hi all, my iSimple TranzIt IS32 (and antenna adapter) came in today. I'll likely install this weekend or next week. For those of you who have done an iSimple (or ACM) install, I have a few questions:

1. Where/how did you mount the aux and/or USB input(s)? I'm thinking the center console is the only place that makes sense. I'm also trying to come up with some way to use the lighter compartment. Thoughts?

2. To run cables beneath the center column to the center console, does the console and column need to come out? If so, how do you get the center console out? I've searched here. I saw a few threads on the topic, but nothing very detailed.

3. Where am I suposed to mount (or hide) the actual modulation box. It's the metal, rectangular box (roughly 2.5" x 2" x 1") between the radio connection cables and the aux/usb input cables. I don't the think the ACM has one, just the iSimple. I haven't had the head unit out yet, but I think I've seen images of a vacant space top-center behind the heated seat controls? Or maybe the glove box? Or under the center column? Ideas?

4. How does the center cup-holder come out?

Thanks for the input!

- Ryan

1. I'd put the USB in the center console and the iPod connection, I'd run that from under the passenger side of the center console. Thats where my ACM iPod line is so I can use a neat dock that I found on eBay that attaches to the seat nut!

2. All you really need to do is take out the ash tray, and then take out the radio. it's pretty easy. Jag parts all seem to screw in and out. Just be careful not to drop any screws into the hole. They are a b###h to get out!

3.Use some velcro and attach it to the side of the console. When you remove then ash tray you'll see a huge space to put stuff.

4. Dunno. Not sure if you need to take it out. If you need to remove the console thats easy too. Getting it back in can be a little tricky, but it's certainly doable.

Here's a link to the ACM instructions. It may help with the console removal.

Use the power from the cigar lighter to power the iSimple. Good luck.

Hi!! I bought the same stuff as you from the same site. I was wondering if you have it working and how did you run the cables.

I ran into some problems. Firstly, connecting it was a pain because I could not figure out if everything was connected.

I have connected the antenna adapter I bought from that site you suggested, but I have a male connector unable to connect into the radio. It seems I need another adapter that is opposite on both ends.

Please help!

edit: Also where did you ground it? Most I am worried about.

When you take off the veneer surround from the gear change you'll see four screws. Use one of those.

Thanks, I was worried I had to solder it (don't have soldering gun). As for the red wire, how should i tap into the 12v? I was thinking the cig lighter, but I am not sure how to properly tap (splice) into it neatly/safely. I might have to return/trade the car in the future so I don't want to make any permanent alterations to the cig lighter. I don't use the cig lighter for anything, so temporarily suspending it will be okay.

If anyone has a link to another post or diagram as to which wire behind the cig lighter is the correct one to use would also be helpful.

I have to wait another week anyways for the other half of the antenna adapter to come in.

Splice the live feed into the cigar lighter's feed using one of these:

Then connect the ground (earth) wire onto one of the four screws under the shifter surround using one of these:

Thanks flyrrr you have been very helpful. I managed to install it and have everything working without drilling any holes. I'll post a pic soon to show it off. THANKS AGAIN!

Were there any other pieces needed to connect the IS32 to a stock Jaguar radio console? Any adapters or things like that? It seems like the radio antenna connection is where the two come together. Any problems here?

I just ordered the kit. Can you please provide some guidance to which antenna adapter(s) I need? A photo would be great!

Thanks

tomdot, if you could let me know what you find once you begin I would appreciate it. I have an isimple coming and am not sure what sort of antenna adapter, if any, I need. I have an 04 XJR. Thanks.
