Remove the said item, scuff with light sandpaper, paint and reattach. just be careful when removing the chrome, the plastic pieces holding it in place is real fragile and hard to come by for replacement

 

If you buy a Sport model you wont have to do all that, they are already monochrome. The only thing you would stillneed to black out would be the lenses (if you so choose).

 

jjones, I just did this very thing (minus the part over the windows) on my car. The trick is to use a color layer and then use a clear coat layer. The single stage paints will give an "OK" look. But, going with a dual stage paint will give you a much better look. Also, using the spray paint cans will always result in a so-so look. I have never been able to get a good look from them for the exterior stuff. So, getting some of the paint in a quart can and then running it through an air brush/spray gun will give you a much better result. I think I spent about $60 to do all the chrome on my car. I even did the black plastic piece that holds the backup sensors (bottom of the rear bumper).

You may want to check out the forums. I have pictures of what I did to my car. One of the interesting things that I did was painted the chrome piece above the license plate but left the "JAGUAR" in chrome. Gives a nice little bit of sparkle to the car. Worst case, I will send you some pics to you.
