The XK is real nice.. Originally I was going to get the S-Type v8, but after getting jerked around by another dealer I went up the block to Great Neck Jaguar and was turned on to my current X-Type.
I like the fact that it has AWD and is excellent in all types of weather. Comfortable/Easy to drive, looks great and I am happy with the 5 speed manual.
I suggest you check them all out, drive them all and make your decision. For me I think I would like to get the XF next!!!

I want to buy a Jaguar, but I have no idea which one to buy. I love them all so much. XJ, S, X type. They all have their qualities. Which would You buy?

2) Do you want a late model or don't mind getting something of older vintage?
If you want a sedan I reccommend going for the flagship XJ. Specifically a 2002/2003 model. These are the last years of the gorgous low slung design. However look at a 2004+ new body style as well and decide which one YOU like more.

None of the above. In my humble opinion, my Jaguar x-type 3.0 is the worst vehicle I've ever owned. The resale value is terrible, the seats are not comfortable, I could go on and on. Read through the forums, you'll see the same issues throughout such as "What's that howling sound?", etc. If someone said they'd swap me for a Honda Accord straight up, I'd do it. Scary enough, the ride would be better. I know the x-type is the entry level jag, but I wanted an all wheel drive vehicle for my wife. The "entry level" lexus, bmw, audi, infinity all have better reliability ratings, better resale value, ride better, handle better, and cost less to own.
Sorry to those "jaglovers", just my opinion.

I would recommend you consider the following if applicable
1. Cost constraints - within your budget what cars are available. If cost is no object then I would go for an XKR. However, most people have a budget to work with. Generally, using X-Types are a baseline, S-Types are $2K more, XJs are $5K more and XKs about $8K per a given year. Using a fixed price as a baseline X-Types would be the newest, S-Types would be 2 years older, XKs 4 years older, and XKs about 7 years older. What you actually find may vary but this is just a baseline estimate.
2. Maintenance/warranty/reliability constraints - how reliable are the candidates you are looking for and are warranties available? This will most likely be for 2004 or newer cars.
3. Family considerations - if you have a family, then most likely you will be looking at a sedan. XK back seats are good only for legless midgets.
4. How far are you willing to drive to buy the car?
In my own case, I went for a 2005 S-Type which was a Certified Jaguar. Hope this helps.

to dgrelecki:
I recently bought an 02 xtype 3.0, at first I thought someone sh*t on my oatmeal!! but eventually I've learned that what really caused the issues i was confronted with were the previous owners (im the 3rd), I had owned an 06 volvo 2.5 AWD and I must say the Jag has better handling... does anyone disagree? Ive driven the accords and camrys but i only see them as commuter "point A to B cars"... so tell me, in what way did your jag sh*t on your oatmeal?
