RE: jag lift..
pu5hkar, I didn't mean to come off sounding like I was hatin'. I deal a lot with suspension setups and modifying them. So, I have an idea of what he is after and needs in order to ensure long time survivability of the suspension. Sure, he could probably get away with adding either a 2" coil spacer or going with longer coils, but that is going to lead to issues with his struts at a minimum, if not putting the CV axles at excessive angles leading to damage. When working around CV joints and the like, they are much more touchy because of the limited distances you have to deal with. Even on a full size truck, they don't recommend you change the height of the truck more than about 1.5" from the stock without dropping the differentials and the like. Wiht our Jags, that would mean remounting the motor. You can imagine the work needed to make the motor sit an inch or two lower. If the X-types were a simple RWD design, then adding the necessary lift would be a piece of cake. But our cars are AWD, that makes things much, much more difficult.

As cosworth said if the tires have say 75% left you might get a nice break on a set of brand new tires. My tires were 17's and discount tire was going to give me like 30 bucks a tire for mine that were at least 50% worn and the replacement tires would have been around 100 bucks a tire so it cut into the cost of the new tires quite a bit.
Truly though I wouldn't put those tires on!
My 225's rubbed with 17's let alone the 18's i have now or the 20's you are going to be putting on! Make sure you come by with some pics of the dubs!

playboii, adding the spacers alone, you are looking at long term damage, not anything that is going to happen overnight. What I mean by this is instead of the CV joints lasting say 100K miles, adding the spacers will cause them to last say only 50K miles. CV joints are meant to be operated mainly in a straight line under load, but can handle some angular difference. But, the higher the angle is all the time, the wear rate goes up. There is no real quantitative value that can be put on it.
So, if you are looking at doing it just for say a day or even a week, then that is fine. But, longer than that and I would be looking at something with a more permanent fix. I made the assumption that this was going to be something that you wanted on your car from now on. Not many people install a set of rims for just a day or something like that.

RE: jag lift..
playboiij, the size tire has very little to do with the wear that the car will see (unless you are going really wide or a significantly different backspacing). The big factor is the difference in height between the center of the shaft on the CV axle at the differential end and at the wheel end. The factory X-type has very little difference between these two. So, as long as you are only installing the spacers for a few days, all should be good. You can run the rims/tires as long as you want. just be aware of body rub as this can lead to cutting down of a tire if you stick with the current tires. There are ways around installing a lift, but I would need to do some looking at my Jag to see if it is possible. Normally this requires the use of a 3 pound hammer on the body of the car. Sound tempting? Didn't think so. Normally there are some pieces inside the wheel well that can be "massaged" some to give the tire a bit more room inside the wheel well.
If you are looking for a long term resolution, let me know. I'll do what I can with my car to give you options.

You are wise in making that decision! Did you ever think about just installing the rims/tires and seeing what would happen around the house? You might be able to get away with them if only for a second and you don't hit bumps, have weight in the car and don't do anything stupid.
Where are the pics at? Put the tires next to the car at least!

RE: jag lift..
Height shouldn't be a problem, it's the width that hurts them. Schmidty on here has 20's on a sport which has a lowered suspension but he has 20 series tires. The 35's might fit if your only wanting to show them a day or so til you get the new tires. There are guys on cardomain with 19's and 40 series tires which is what I have on my 18's. Says he's got 235's on in the rear with 19's and 40 series. I'd put 2 on in the front and see what happens, I just wouldn't turn too hard!

RE: jag lift..
I think the rears will be more of an issue than the front. With my 18's i only had an issue with the front on occasions if i hit a bump hard while turning. Now that i have the fenderes rolled, then no longer are an issue (with the car lowered). The rears on the other hand are quite an issue. I cant have people sit in the back, nor can i take bumps any quicker than 2 mph. the tire im using is a 225/40 series. I guess it depends on the offset and width of the rim you have too. Hope those dubs fit and you dont have to buy new tyres. Post pics when you get a chance.

RE: jag lift..
Hey 04 yours don't fit with 40 series? Yours were 8.5 though weren't they? My 225 40 18's fit nice but I have no clue what offset or width the rim is...I can't say I've had any problems with any of it I think the only thing I get is some rubbing on the fender wall where the plastic is kind of drooping, nothing to damage it or anything.
