Jag newbie- Auto Trans Inquiry

There use to be a problem with flushing older transmissions, they would flush them and then the car would never drive again. The reason behind this is that while transmission fluid is a cleaner, it breaks down and gums up. So, by just flushing the transmission you are getting out 90% of the gummed up fluid, but what remains in there blocks all the fluid passageways, IE the transmission doesn't work anymore. Now, if you put in a good product like "trans-turn" or another good cleaner, it cleans everything and makes it so those little passageways do not get gummed up. I just did a trans flush-n-fill on a 86 chevy, put Trans-tune in about 3000 miles before, the transmission works just as good as when it was new. In my x type, it was hard shifting and slipping, put trans-tune in, within 300 miles the car drives like new now. (I still have to flush-n-fill it, but not sure if Royal Purple Max-AFT will work or not...) I'm a huge fan of trans-tune. It's cheap, and should be the first step in troubleshooting certain issues... but that's just my two cents.

Hey Boostmaster,
I couldn't sleep tonight, so I put together some places you can get the needed items to rebuild this transmission right, (The automatic transmission is known as the JF506E in the Jaguar X Type and Land Rover's Freelander. In the Mazda 6 and MPV it is known as the JA5A-EL and with VW's Golf, GTI and Jetta it is the 09A. Overseas it is known as the 5F1J or the Durashift -5-Tronic transmission used in the Mondeo vehicle starting in 2002.5 model year, but there all the same transmission.)
09A JF506E Solenoid Kit : Automatic, Standard Transmission and Transfer Case Rebuild Kits, Cobra Transmission Parts 1-800-293-1848, Cobra Transmission
09A | JF506E Performance Transmission Rebuild Kit
You can also shoot for a performance valve job,
09A | JF506E valve body shift kit
I'll be rebuilding my tranny here soon, I think I'm gonna video tape it and put it on Youtube, if you're interested that is.
Hope this helps,

Hey Jim:
Thanks for the post... After much hand wringing, we ended up with a Cadillac.
Nevertheless, if you decide to do a rebuild and record it, please do post it. I, for one, would like to see it- every little bit helps! I recently purchased a video on rebuilding more pedestrian GM transmissions and it still seems like quite a chore. I'm sure there's lots of folks who would appreciate it.

Boostmaster; I'm going to throw this out there. I'm a Jag guy and probably will catch a load of crap for this but, Jags are a finicky car and your Mother is very rural. If you get it running, spend a ton of time and money and a dozen other things could go wrong and your not close. You see where I'm going. There are other cars that don't need the care of a Jag and more bullet-proof (reliable) without the Maintenance and care.Just a thought.
