hi, I had a very similar issue but mine is the diesel but its worth a try. I took my 04 plate xtype to work parked it on a hill. Lunchtime came went to the car and tried to start it, nothing, the lights came on the dashboard but would not turn over. My first thought was the immobiliser but anyway i called out the AA. The guy didn't just ship me off to a garage but started digging into the problem.
He got the car started by directly sending power to the starter motor, which meant power wasn't getting to it. He traced it back to the fuse box and found that it was the starter motor fuse that had gone. Its just a normal 30 amp fuse in the diesel, changed the fuse and hey presto it came back to life.
If you want to save money on repairs, have a look at the AA repair and recovery deal, starter motors are covered, but remember you have to wait 14 days before you can make a claim hint hint, have a look could save you a lot of money, all sorts are covered by it and you can make upto 5 claims a year, and they pay the first £500 of any repair. Its around £15 to £20 a month but well worth it if u ask me.
I really hope its just the fuse so your cars right for ur, take care Raz.
