As a continuation of my earlier post, I want to address a few compatibility issues with the new lighting connector on modern iDevices.

The Apple-made 30-pin to lighting adapters seem to work perfectly with the ACM, but are a bit expensive at either $30 or $40.

The DockBoss for iPhone 5, a different kind of adapter (Connect your iPhone 5 to your iPod or iPhone dock, speaker dock system, portable speakers with dockBoss.) doesn't work, at least not with USB alone. This cable is supposed to connect to your old 30-pin "docks" (or the ACM's 30-pin cable in this case) and allow you to connect an iPhone 5 using it's supplied USB cable. I found that while the ACM recognized the device and charged it, audio was output through the phone's speakers instead of the car and steering wheel controls were not transmitted to the phone. The DockBoss does include another cable which they want you to plug into the phone's headphone jack, but for me at least this defeats the purpose and creates a messy setup. If I wanted to plug two wires into my phone I would just use the ACM's built in Aux jack and a crappy car charger.

My other great idea was to make my own 30-pin to lightning adapter. The concept was to make one longer than the .2m (8 inch) Apple adapter so that the bulk of it could be hidden in the center console. So I cut open my $40 Apple adapter and a new $20 Apple lighting USB cable only to find that the adapter had almost twice as many wires in it. I was quite disappointed that I had ruined a $40 adapter, but I was able to salvage the $20 USB cable by splicing it back together.

So, learn from my mistakes and buy either one of Apple's adapters or one of the much cheaper Chinese adapters. While the ideal adapter would have a much longer cable so that the end connected to the 30-pin cable could be hidden away, such a cable doesn't exist yet. My next step is to maybe have a bunch manufactured to my specifications in China and then sell them to fellow Jaguar owners.

Roth,

Any idea if the ACM part # C2P16491 will work with a 2005 S-Type with Navigation (no cd changer)??

Or is the only ACM that is compatible with nav S-Types-ACM # C2C 40513?

Thanks a ton!

I'm not familiar with that part number. Did you try a Google search with terms "Jaguar C2P16491" ?

There is a guy selling one on eBay and says its for the XK models. I was able to find out that it won't fit the XJ models, bit nothing on comparability with the S-Types???

This is talked about on the forum, but nothing on S-Type fitment...can anyone confirm one way or another?

Thanks!

X-Type, S-Type, and certain years of XJ all share the same interface among audio components. XK is different. It won't work.

There was a member selling an ACM, I remember seeing a thread last week. If I recall, it was priced at $350 which is a very good deal as cheapest prices we've been seeing lately are well over $400. If you're in the market for one, that's probably the way to go
