I am looking to purchase a scanner for our Jags but I am not sure which one. I want to be able to turn off lights not just read codes. So for I have found one that might be good but NOT sure if it will work with out Jags. It does work with Ford vehicles and I am thinking that the software might be close.
Please help I am looking to spend no more then 500 and would like to spend less if I can![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

SEB, you can turn off lights with the cheapy $70 units. The trick is, will the code remain clear. Even with the higher end units, if the code reappears, the light is going to come back on. I would say to do one of 2 things unless you really need the higher end unit:
1) go to your local autoparts store and get a $70 unit and go with that. Clear all the codes and the light will go out. The only down side I see with a unit like this is the description of the code is normally fairly vague, so, you will normally end up looking the code up on the internet to get more info. I find myself doing this anyways to get an idea of the common failure items associated with the code.
2) if you look around, you can find cables along with computer programs that you can take your Palm Pilots or a laptop and then with the special cable, read all the codes you want and perform many functions that the $70 units can't do. These can be picked up for as little as $30 and normally for under $100. These will even normally allow you to see real time parameters of your car. But, this all assumes you have a laptop at your disposal.
