Oil Change
Stickman,
Picked up a K&N oil filter and a 5+ jug of Castrol 5w-30 synthetic oil, missed where u mentioned to get an extra quart. in reading my owners manual, i found that it takes 6 quarts of oil. Question - the 5+ jug = 5.28 quarts, in adding the extra quart do you pour all of oil in or do you try to ONLY put in the reco'd 6 quarts or pour in all of the oil from the 5+ jug and the quart bottle?

Due to the great transit system here in DC, I drive about 5,000 miles a year. I do two oil changes, seasonally. Once in the fall and once in the spring. The dealership nearest me seems to always have a coupon on their website for a $49 oil change, so I take advantage of that.
Could I get by with only one change a year? Sure. But that's just me being me, I like to run a tight ship. I like my routines. Also gives me a chance to have her looked at twice a year by a professional.

No problem. Theories on changing oil are ubiquitous around these parts. I think you just have to go with something that makes sense to you and your car.

Frontrunning,
I use the entire 6.3 Quarts which puts the level right in the middle of the Low and Full marks on the dipstick. As far as changes go I change oil and filter every 4500 to 5000 miles with a good grade petroleum product. I used to change at 3000 miles but things have changed dramatically over the years and oils can provide superior lubrication for much longer than before and I'm comfortable with that.
As far as a K&N air filter is concerned I've had them on a couple different vehicles and for a daily driver you're just fine with a good quality paper element. Yeah a K&N will last a long time but it is also a pain in the butt to service. Wash, drain, dry, oil, wait, re-apply as necessary. It takes hours to execute this and if you're not careful and put too much oil on the element you can screw up the mass airflow meter. On the Jag I use a good paper element and change it out when it collects dirt that wont shake out. In 65,000 miles I think I've changed it twice. Takes 5 minutes instead of 2 hours.
