Default Jaguar X-Type - cooling fan module failure

The original cooling fan control module on my jaguar X-Type 2004 model got burnt inside and i asked my mechanic to replace with a second hand one from the scrap yard. Surprisingly it couldn't work. I later tried another one which works on a similar vehicle but it can not work on mine. Connecting the fans directly on the battery, they work. What could be the problem?
