Jaguar X-Type will not start - Red Flashing Light
I have a 2003 Jag X type 2.5 Sedan. One day it would not start. Red light on shift console is blinking. Everything else worked. Doors locked, windows up and down, A/C worked. I bought a new battery then installed a new starter. For a few days, if I moved the shifter just right, or turned the key just right, it would start. Then not even that worked. I had a mechanic come over, who checked the fuel pump, re programed the key fobs, etc. He put a wrench under the hood across the starter and that would turn the engine over, but not start. Said it is stuck in Anti-theft mode, not getting fuel. Not sure what to do next? Jag dealership is 100 miles from me. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Is it flashuing in any kind of sequence? By that I mean like three quick blinks follwed by two longer ones, or something along those lines? Is so, you could at least look up what kind of failure mode it is in.
It sounds like you have/had two working keys that would both start the car and now neither of them will?
Any other symptos you can think of when the failure happened or just before the first time it happened? Any work done just before you started having issues?
If you lost the programming on the chips in the keys themselves, you might have it take it to the dealer ti get it programmed to the car again.

If you have 2 keys, try the other key. IT is possible that the key that you normally used is having issues. But, if both keys are not working, then you have either a bad pick up in the ring around the ignition switch, a bad can bus wire between the instrument cluster and the ECU, or the PATS module has lost power.
Just to ask a probing question, have you done any work on/near the dash just before this started? If so, odds are, your problem is most likely in that spot. I would also try to get the codes read. It may be possible that you have a code that is tossed that may help narrow things down a little bit. Kinda like was asked, were there any other symptoms that the car was exhibiting just before this started (ie, tach not always reading correctly, the information center display was doing funny things, etc).

A local mechanic had worked on it. Installed a new sender in the fuel tank ($1,100) but the gas gauge still not working. He had even ordered a used instrument cluster and drove the car all the way to Little Rock Jag dealership (100 miles) only to find out he needed to have both keys and had only taken one. They sent the used cluster back and I had been using with the old cluster. About 3 months latter, it would start some time if I jiggled the gear shifter around some, but a week latter that not even working. I replaced the battery with a new one and that didn't work so then replaced the starter. I had the local mechanic come by and he got a error code indicating a problem with the anti theft and he feels the immobilizer is the problem. He jumped the starter and it turned over but wouldn't start. The fuel pump was working. Don't know what to do next?

shula, you will need to get a code reader to the car. Under the dash, there is a port for you to plug the reader into. Turn the reader on, turn the car to the RUN position, tell the reader to read the codes. Post the codes here and see what we can make of them. Also, pay attention to the red light. Is the light just flashing at a constant rate or do it seem to blink a few times, have a small gap, blink some more, gap, etc. If so, tell us how many times it blinks.
