Just Back from the Shop - Charlotte, NC X-Type
Hello, fellow enthusiasts! So, I just got my car back from the shop. In my first post, I stated the following: "I started looking at the forum because my car is currently in the shop and I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing (or had experienced) similar problems -- driveshaft out of balance, air compressor leaking oil, and ball bearings causing a rattle/clunking noise(? - I think it's bearings)."
So, I picked it up today and here is what the paperwork stated:
(A) Cust request check & advise on fluid leak; Cause - A/C compressor leaking out of front seal; Replaced A/C compressor
(B) Cust states rubbing type noise when turning steering wheel in both directions; Cause - inner rack seal; Performed TSB steering squeak
(C) Cust states vibration at 55/60 mph - cust states vibration transfers into center console area; Cause - driveshaft out of balance; Trace fault to drive shaft; Replaced drive shaft
(D) Cust states noise from under vehicle when going over bumps; Cause - rear swaybar bushings worn; Replaced rear swaybar bushings
(E) Cust states haze behind instrument pack cover; Cause - film on instrument pack; Applied wax to remove film; Repaired and refitted instrument pack
Here's the cost breakdown:
Labor Amount -- $693.00
Parts Amount -- $217.65
Gas, Oil, Lube -- $0.00
Sublet Amount -- $184.10
Misc. Charges -- $0.00
Total Charges -- $1094.75
Adjustmens -- $0.00
Sales Tax -- $15.78
Please Pay This Amount -- $1110.53
My portion of it that I had to pay was $247.21, which included the items not covered by thewarranty (B and E, from above)and the rental (I had to pay part of the rental because I wanted another X-Type as opposed to the Kia that they were gonna give me). I dropped it off on Monday at7:30amand JUST got it back today (Friday) at 4:30pm. It seems to be riding perfectly!! Well, I just wanted to share my experience with you guys and gals!

Good to hear about a pleasant dealer service experience, and your out-of-pocket expenses were very reasonable. I noticed no diagnostic fee, which tells me that your particular dealer absorbed that time as you had the work done there in the shop. If you would have said 'let me think about it', you most likely would have the fee to pay. I like repair places that use this practice, you pay the upfront fee, but they 'deduct' it from the overall repair total. My home audio place did the same thing for a speaker repair. Anyway, the resulting total sounded very affordable, thanks for sharing your story.

that sound you heard that they said was the sway bar bushings, was it a clucky type sound coming from the back after hitting bumps and coming from the rear? kind of like something you would hear and not feel? almost like what the trunk lid would sound like if it were banging?

Vegas -- Yep! That's it!! I would see the bump or pothole in the road, but would be unable to avoid it for whatever reason (car too close next to me, etc.), and then as I went over it, I would hear the "clunking" but I never really felt anything.

Sounds like they took care of ya buddy! That price seems pretty darn fair too! Good to hear some positive stories on here for sure! I might need to get that sound checked out that sounds like my problem as well but I though it was the shocks...What year does that tsb apply to FJT?
