RE: Just Bought Used X-Type - Buzz Noise
i read somewhere in one the forums, that the x-type "likes" to loosen the sealing along the side window.
when this rubber-stripe stands off from the car body, it causes a funny sound, but more likely at high speed.
best you ask someone a) to locate the sound while you are driving, b) to define the circumstances under which the effect arises.
try a search through <www.jaguarforum.co.uk>.

Hi Laurel
I also have an x-type and it has the buzzing noise too. If you look on the dashboard near to the steering column you will see a very small square vent with slats. If you get close to this I think you will find this is where the buzzing noise is coming from. My dealer told me the buzz is being made by the climate control unit as it tries to reduce humidity and remove any dampness from the air inside the car. He said they are all like that. Does that make it a design fault? I'm not sure if I believe him. Let me know if you find out that is where the buzz is coming from.

Its tiny a fan which carries on running in humid conditions to
circulate the air so you don't get blasted by warm air when you use
your climate control. It circulates air across the humidity sensor.
It keeps running for a while after you switch off, and starts again
when you open a door. It does this so that there is less delay in
getting the climate control to the right setting when you switch on
(or restart).

I know this because I took my dash out to install my radio. Noticed it humming and wondered what it was for. Read up on it and said to myself....geeeze...
Some make the noise, others don't. Not worth replacing. If under warranty jaguar will tell you its normal. Only recommendation I have it to remove it, clean the dust off it, spray some W-40 in the fans motor.... it may help....
