Just a fun suggestion...
I thought it would be a cool idea if weshare the reason why, when, and how much we all got our X-types for (you don't have to put how much you paid for it, if you don't want to).
Just a random idea.
I got mine December 2006 for around $11,500 with 59k miles on it. The reason why I got mine is because I wanted a nice car for a good price that would make everyday driving exciting (especially since it's 5 speed), I used to have a '96 Thunderbird.
Sorry FJT, I actually don't mind at all what car it is as long as we all share.

All cars not just the x...were don't segregate cars here!
Bought mine in September 2006 for somewhere near $13,500 or so. Mine's a 2002 3.0 sport. I bought it with 54k miles or somewhere near that. I figured why get a grand prix when everyone has one when I could drive a jag??? Also wanted something good in the weather for the wifey as she had to drive the e-way and about 1/2 hour to work, once we bought it she ended up transfering and we will soon have no use for awd...

Got my March 2002 X Type Sport for £11500 in May 2005
What's that in US dollars...in 2005. lol
It had 49k and a FJSH.
I bought my 2003 XK8 with 45,000miles in February 2007 for $35,000. My Jeep got paid off, and then I started watching the car's resale value fall for almost a year. I never had a convertible before, and the looks of this XK mesmorized me. I told myself, if I find a good price, AND I actually liked the way it drove, I would buy it. There was only two colors that I wanted (that dk blue or silver) with the 19" apollo rims... no compromise there. Also I am one of those people, that no matter how a car performs or looks, if I don't feel 'at home' and comfortable in the driver seat, I don't want the car. I have been in several cars that the dash looks cheap, un-ergonomic, too far away...too close, too plasticy, stuff like that. The Jag welcomed me and I felt a part of her...cue the music. Did I tell you I named her Beth?...short for Elizabeth (sounds british to me). What do you guys call your car?

Last time I checked was almost $2 to the £. www.xe.com is the best place to check.
Hmmm
2001 VanDenPlas with 44431 miles for $2000.00 and that is not a typo.
Long wheel base, picnic trays, heated front and rear seats, nav, premium sound, front seat passenger side never sat in. Chauffer driven car with 1 previous owner and full service history.
Had blown motor. Pulled it, rebuilt it (including new chains and tensioners, new heads and entire cooling system) to the tune of about $1800.00 in parts. Labour free done by yours truley. Gave it to the wife who loves it and therfore makes my lifethat bit easier. In fact, this is the first car she hasjust fallen in love with first time behind wheel.

RE: Just a fun suggestion...
I got my x-type only two weeks ago (Feb 8, 2008). Went out for pizza and came home with a car. 56K miles, just shy of $13k.
My wife and I have always LOVED Jaguars, but we were never able to afford one. We had a few put-put cars (a 2000 Ford Escort and a 2005 Chevy Cobalt) which did just fine for us. Our kids are teenagers now and one of them is now over 6 ft tall... compact put-puts are no walk in the park for a long ride in the back seat with legs from here to eternity. One of our cars (the Escort) was completely paid off a while ago and we had been looking at possibly trading it in. The car had gotten to the point where it was starting to nickle and dime a bit. So we went out to go get a take and bake pizza for dinner, and while we were waiting for them to make our pizza, we deicded to go cruise the car lot a few blocks down the road, where we got one of our put-puts (The Cobalt). As we are driving through the lot, I spotted the Jag and pointed it out to my wife as we're driving by it. All of a sudden I hear her say "Back up the car." So we get out and take a closer look at the Jag... nice ride, good price, not too many miles on it... so we left, got our pizza, put ours in the fridge, baked the kids' so they could eat dinner, went back to the car dealer with the Escort and a few hours later, drove home in the Jag.
So in answer to "why" we bought it... it was an impulse buy with reason... much better safety features, lumbar support in the passenger's seat, which is a must for my wife as she has a herniated disc in her back, and IT IS A JAG!!!! The town where we live is very blue collar at best... it's a blast to see people's head turn as we drive by

RE: Just a fun suggestion...
Mine actually purchased for my wife. She drove it a few weeks and decided she prefered her Mazda SUV. hmmm.....go figure. In any case, good news for me....I love the Jag. Wehad picked it out (color choice, options) to her taste otherwise, I would have gone for the gray (like 310's X) orblack.
We went with the Jag because it seems like there's a Benz or BMW on other every street corner, but in my opinion, the Jagis really something special.Ours is a 2004 X-Type AWD, 3.0 Sunroof and the usual goodies. We got it in December 2007 with 49K for $17,500.

RE: Just a fun suggestion...
Picked up my red 2002 3.0 5spd for just under $10K w/ 77,000 miles on it. It had been neglected and needed a good cleaning, an interior mirror, four speakers and then a short time later a newengine...seems a prior owner had allowed coolant to mix with the oil...made a mess of the aluminum lubricatedparts....another ~$6K later I now have a '04 3.0 engine w/ 17,000 miles that runs like a Swiss watch.
Why...I've always liked British cars and bikes...always loved the look of the X type and I had to have four doors (so no XK). I liked this one because it was red, cheap (or kind of) and a 5 spd.
No regrets...love it!
