Just purchased a jaguar and need assistance
hello all, I JUST purchased a 2002 Jaguar X-type yesterday from an individual. I got it for a great price because it needs work done. My car knowledge is extremely limited however I have a friend who is extremely knowledgeable and is helping me out. There were two problems. The car would not go in to park and it would not go in reverse. Late last night he fixed the issue of it not going in to park, however when it goes in reverse, it just revs but doesn't move. I have read multiple posts on here about what the problem might be, but what we are trying to do is find an exploded view of the transmission. We have wasted hours online today searching for it and can't find anything. Can someone please help by either providing a link or the exploded view/diagram itself? Thank you so much in advance! Just FYI: it's a 2.5 automatic.

There's a Jaguar method of checking ATF level - but it looks cumbersome. If you search ATF service on the forum you'll see an easy method of draining, then refilling with 3.5 quarts of fluid. I did that the recommended 3 times to freshen up most of the trans fluid. Since you're working another problem though I'd do it once to make sure low fluid level isn't the cause of your Reverse issue.

At this point in time the fluid level is uncertain and we are still working to try to determine what the level is. The mechanic that is helping me thinks that it was over-filled as well as the reverse band bolt pulled by the previous owner. I am open to any and ALL suggestions!
I believe turning that bolt gives your symptom... Possibly the previous owner or his/her mechanic turned that bolt attempting to drain the fluid

I have pasted a link below that could be the cause of the problem. If anyone else has done a ATF fluid drain they may have removed accidentally the bolt that holds the reverse band in place. The thread explains how to deal with the reconnection.
If the ATF hasn't been drained and the drain plug and bolt are undisturbed then you may have a problem with the reverse solenoid. Using the manual you can take resistance readings for the solenoid and determine if it is defective and causing the problem. The connectors are external to the transmission but the solenoids are internal and will require pulling the pan to change.
