Nope should not. Again, haven't had any extensive look at this engine bay yet, so I'm speculating there's a bad seal somewhere. Either that or valve covers.

Just mod the stock air intake as you wouldnt notice any improvement with a K+N.Have tried K+Ns in many modded cars and they sound nice but I have never noticed any difference as you needmore BHP than just adding a K+N to notice any increase in performance.Try this:-

Could be coming from a PCV valve that's about shot.

So basically, its a stalemate on whether or not the K&N improves performance.
But I do beleive most say it definitely makes the car sound better (which is better than nothing)

But the real reason I would want to buy a K&N is if it actually helps fuel efficiency. does it?

If the K+N lets more air in then surely you must have more fuel to burn the air???

No it don't work like that, Air doesn't burn.

The MAFsignals the computer (ECM)how much fuel to inject with the measured amount of air that is being sensed..Grade school science tells you that given more air to a set amount of fuel will increase combustion efficiency..Fuel needs oxygen to burn, not the other way around, more air by volume, more the O2ratioto fuel, hence a more complete burn and less CO,..So, yes the K&N allows for more airflow over the long haul as it allows freer air flow even when dirty, compared to a dirty paper filter, extra air WILL increase mileage as you are getting a morecomplete burn and more bangout ofthe fuel injected.

If we're just stepping up to support or refute the use of K&N filters, I will state that I believe in their use. I noticed better gas mileage with the Jeep (of course it was coupled with the cold air intake system), and fully believe that it is aiding in my gas mileage with the XK8. Personal preference though...i find it worth it.

Have had mine in for about a week and it seems a little peppier (just quicker to rev while letting the clutch out), runs a bit smoother, and seems to have helped MPG by about 1 mpg. The biggest kick is going to be the ability to clean it vs. the price of the paper filter.

I was told by my dealer that adding a K&N air filter would void my warranty !?!. I didnt get a clear reason as to why, other than the fact that it is an aftermarket part.
If it voids the warranty, its definitely not worth it.
But if it doesnt, it sounds like a good investment...
I'll take a 1 mpg gain over none.

im outta warranty so i could give a damn less. But it voids warranty with the assumption that the oil from the filter could cause various sensors such as the MAF, MAP, Throttle servo, and other electronics to be contminated and ruined causing negligible damage to the engine. It would never happen unless improperly fitted and maintained, and could just as easily happen with a paper one not installed correctly. Simple as this; out the K&N in your car and keep the old one in your K&N box and if it needs serviced, replace the K&N with the paper one you have saved and no harm done! Put your K&N back in when done with service.

Your dealer is full of ****...I've had mine on throughout the entire warranty period and into my extended warranty, without one word of concern from my dealer..

Besides that..the Magnuson-Moss act prevents the dealer from any such BS with aftermarket add ons.

Dennis, I don't know about a filter but certainly most parts that are aftermarket, if fitted can and probably will void any warranty as far as I'm lead to believe.

Jagxtype......great idea of you run with a K+n filter to swap it out before servicing if in warranty.

We got it Bo. The thought of being able to wash it and not having to take the trip to the dealer was enough for me. Seems i have been consistantly getting better gas milage though. Was the same way with every other car i installed it on too.

And you will continue to get better mileage even when it gets dirty..I can't believe anybody would be so selfish as to keep using PAPER filters, which requires cutting down and using precious trees, which they are in such short supply...Secondly, they act as air purifiers to scrub the atmosphere of CO2 and returns Oxygen back, hence reducing the effects of greenhouse gases...Anybody, who uses paper filters are just mindless and selfish of the environment.
