Here's my best guess:

The front lower control arm has liquid filled bushings on the aft bushing. The liquid liberates itself over time (leaks) and then the clunking starts. The only solution that I know of is control arm replacement. Mine is doing this.

I've considered removal of the control arms, cleaning out the bushing's internals and injecting with silicone or 30 durometer polyurethane. Might ride stiffer, but at this point I don't care.

I found new control arms for $159 each. But, I think they are generic, not OEM Jag parts. Probably not with liquid filled bushings.

I noticed oil dripping down one of the bushings once and I didn't know this meant that the bushing is gone. Anyway as you may gather by now, I live in Ghana where jaguars and more specifically Xtype are extremely rare, I may there have to order these parts from Europe or USA, question is what can I do in the interim to at least enjoy a comfortable ride whiles I wait for my parts to come in. Thank u

I'm just shooting in the dark, but if you are talking about a long wait for parts, is there any potential for making a bronze replacement to get you by?

I do not think you will be able to machine a brass bushing to replace the liquid filled leaking bushing. The configuration does not lend itself to doing so.

I strongly suspect the liquid bushing can be perforated with a drill bit, cleaned out, and injected with synthetic rubber, or soft polyurethane,.or some other product that "cures" to a rubbery state. Then the part re-installed.

Also, you can find new lower control arms on the internet for a reasonable price.

Smile Knocking sound

I had the same sound last year. It turned out to be the bushings on the front and rear swaybars, The dealer wanted $800 to fix. I had a local mechanic do it and he charged me $200 including the price of the bushings. You might want to check the swaybars, if they twist or can be pushed up and down then it is your bushings.
