Last(Recent) three expenses U have incurred on UR X Type
hi guys
What are the last (recently) 3 expenses done on ur X type (significant), lets share job wise - date wise - currency wise.
My expenses are below; Sept month has been tough
1) Battery Change - 18.09.2012 - US$ 155
2) Major servicing (80K Kms) - 13.09.2012 - US$ 354
3) Tyre Change (all 4) - 08.09.2012 - US$ 762
PS- Pls dont post something like i got my car washed /vacuumed US$ 5

What sort of rear tyres for an XKR cost £850!! I just fitted a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 3, size 255/40R 19 100Y to my XK8 for £480 and I thought that was pricey!!
For the X Type, the material costs of maintenance , that I do myself are negligible when compared with insurance - £350 and Road Tax £270.
The only significant defects in over seven years of ownership from new, have been the external temperature sensor - under £10 a couple of years ago and an upstream O2 sensor, about £80 (genuine Jaguar part)
Tyres do about 25,000 miles a set and come in at about £120 each for Michelin Pilot Sport 3, 225/45R 17 91Y.

I bought my X with 80K miles on it, about 2.5 yrs ago.
In April this year I replaced the Upper radiator hose assembly. The part cost $120, I did the work myself.
In July I had to replace the Throttle body at a cost of $1,000. This sucked bad! I tried everything else before shelling out a grand, but it came down to that in the end. Rather easy to replace.
And this week I replaced all my gear box oils, e.g. Transfer case, Rear Differential, and the Transmission oil. Cost $95.00 in gear oils. Side note; Royal Purple in the trans is awesome, super smoothe etc.
Cars with this many miles on them simply need repair every few months or so. I save a lot of money by doing them myself and I like the piece of mind knowing that I cover every detail. No one will do the quality of work you'd do on your own car.

in this part of the world, Jaguar spares are pretty expensive; however, most of Jag users have identifiede their local mechanics and garages, we have some talented mechanics here, who source spares as well and a lower premium (genuine parts, OEM makes).
my cat just hit 80K kMS; bound to spend some bucks on her.

Last 3 repairs on my '05 3.0/auto:
Sept 10, 2011, 64466 mi, Front lower wishbone (??) and driver's side door lock replaced - No charge (warranty); brought the car in for the door lock but the technicians noticed the wishbone.
Oct 14, 2011, 65344, Hood release cable and latch, 3X speakers, and front stabilizer replaced - No charge; A/C drain blockage cleared - $550.00, brought the car in for the hood release, speakers, and wet floor, the technicians noticed the stabilizer.
August 3, 2012, wheel bearing replaced - No charge; rear brake pads/rotors - $700.00, took it in for both repairs so no points for the techs finding something else to fix...
Ya, I'm liking the 3/36 bumper to bumper 100% coverage extended warranty that Ford sold me last year. Yes, Ford offered the plan because as far as the extended warranty was concerned the car was still listed as being a Ford...
And my Jaguar dealer really likes that plan. Ford has never questioned any repair payment request submitted by the dealer. They told me that that is generally not the case with other extended warranty providers!

Cause: A really tiny oil leak in transfer case.
- Sealed transfer case with an OEM sealant kit
- Transfer case oil (Syntrax 75w-140 + X1R)
- Transmission oil (Syntrax 75w-90 + X1R)
Total: 465 USD
2012-05-25 @ 64665 km
Cause: "Cruise not available", and external temperature sensor was going crazy. Turned out that the MAF had died and the vacuum intake hose had split, at the same time!
- MAF (C2S2670)
- Vacuum intake hose (C2S40863)
- External temperature sensor (XR858222)
- Rear valance fastened properly
- OBD-stuff reading & software update
Total: 393 USD
2012-09-20 @ 69100 km
Cause: Nothing was broken, but winter is almost here!
- Defa engine block heater & the related stuff
- Defa interior heater (Termini 2100W)
- Engine oil (LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC 4200 5W-30)
- Oil filter (some VAG thing)
- Coolant fluid (Zero Red)
Total: 1000 USD

The day my right front tyre worn out completely and gave up on me when I was doing approx 130 Kms/hr; lucky me, I maneuvered safely to an abrupt halt.
Here is the point - many tyre sellers, urged me to put in korean made cheap ones, almost like half of price I paid for bridgestone Japan made.
R these Korean makes any good, if they r, y on earth r they so cheap?

Most recent: one of the poles in my Everstart battery cracked and leaked on the battery cables. CEL came on with all kinds of crazy codes. Had dealer replace cable.
Had to have a seal replaced that was causing an oil leak. Not sure what it was and don't have the paper work in front of me now, but it was not cheap. Covered under my extended warranty.
Had to have TC reoplaced at about 31000 miles. Covered under extended warranty, but elected not to use used part and paid $600 for dealer to use the OEM Jag TC.
Other than a new set of tires that is all I have paid for so far other than normal maintenance items like wiper blades, etc.
2005, 34,000 miles on it. Had the 30K service done last January 2011, and car had 31,000 on it at that time.

addiction, I ran nankang tires (korean) for a very, very long time with no problems. I would only buy brand name (Japanese) if you had the extra cash. Basically, a lot of the Korean tires have not yet made their name, so they can only charge for the price of the tire and not for their reputation.

So far I've put about 17k miles on them and they look a little more than half worn but I'll probably only get another 10k out of them, if I'm lucky. That said, my front passenger tire went flat while I got onto the fwy but I didn't feel anything but a good pull to the right side and some shaking. I thought it was the road or something. I kept driving, 16 miles to work. I think the tire got flatter and flatter along the way. In any case, I ended up doing 80mph on a flat front tire and my car was shaking strong so I pulled off the hwy. My tire was hot and smoking. The side walls looked slashed and it would not hold a can of FixAflat.
Point being, my rim was not damaged; the tire took all the punishment. I guess I'm lucky it stayed attached to the rim. In any case, that's my experience with Korean tires. The Kumho Ecsta AST 225/45R17. One set cost me less than $500 delivered from TireRack. Get them installed for $100 and you're set. They have a good semi sticky comp.

Tks for sharing guys, here the temperature soars to 55 degrees Celcius at times, no matter what in about 2 yrs time, the rubber solidifies (or hardens).
Perhaps, I'll try the korean tires next month on my Pajero, I'm done 69k Kms.
