live dealer x-perience.
fun that the dealer has a hot spot.. so I can use my laptop whileI wait. It is 10 am , been here since 8 so two hours already..
three things on the list:
wheel bearing like noise..
front suspension rattle.
activate global close via the key fob.
after 2 hours (and them not even looking to find me) they say "oh yes sir your car is ready" did not know you were waiting - (was written on the order and the key tags)
answers were:
tire noise
did not hear rattle
not programmable.
I ask them to put on a setof tires from another car on the lot to PROOVE it was tire noise. - they say need a new appointment for that
I convince them to let me go on a test drive with the tech. and low and behold he hears the rattle.
and speaking with him he will look into the global close option. next they came to tell me the global close was going to cost me 45 mins labour.
ahh asI was typing this. the tech came to go for a drive with me.
So how he hears the rattle. still says the groan is tires.
his best guess is new shocks but he has never changed any on an X type yet.
as for as the Global close .. it took him all of 6 mins to do it and I am happy.. I dont care if they charge some time for this.. at least it is done..
now to go and pay..

bojangles, Sorry to hear your having problems. Sitting in a dealers waiting room is no fun.
But, now that you mentioned it, I'll have to bring my notebook and see if they have a hot spot.
Hope things turn out well. X's do have tire noise. Changing them helps but at a cost.

Hay Bruce,
Good luck on the noise, I ended up looking like a fool bringing mine in twice for a grinding noise up front...Sounded exactly like a bearing...They told me tire noise both times and sure enough, with the new set of tires the grinding went away...I hated the Contis anyway.
I had a front rattle fixed under warranty. There is evidently a part up front that looks like a solid piece of metal. It is actually filled with fluid and leaks...then starts to rattle. I'll look at my bill and check the part number. My service guy actually told me they rattle in cold weather...<35F. I'm in FL and it rarely gets below 35F. He said when we have cold weather, he gets a few X's in because of it.
I've had no luck with the global close.

my groaning is worst at 40km/h after that the rattles drowns it out.

Racer.. I do have navi.... why do you ask?
and they charged me a half hour to do the global close thing.. it really took 6 minutes, if you are in good standing with your dealer they probably will do it for free.
And I really like the global close with the remote, you hold the lock button till the window or roof start to move then you can let go and everything closes.

A cool function for sure Bo.........I have it as standard on my 2.5 Sport.........works well.
Re the tyre noise..........I'm running Pirelli P Zero's and no road noise here
Re the "hot spot" in the dealers...........I was in the Audi dealers on friday getting my Performance ECU upgrade done on the A6 and they had 4 terminals set up as well as a cafe serving hot food and drinkable coffee....well impressed.
Even more impressed when they finished the upgrade and forgot to charge me the £650 bill
Well chuffed!!!!

RE: live dealer x-perience.
first I DO have navigation, I have a touch screen yes yes yes I do have it.. lol
From what I witnessed, the technician opened my driver door, and plugged in a touch screen laptop to the connector just above the hood release.
he scrolled through a few menus and found a list of dealer programmable options. part way down the list was the global close command from remote. there is a choice of enable or disable. he just touched the screen on ENABLE and then exited the program with a few clicks.
I dont see any reason for this to be any different with or without navigation.
since all the dealers around here seem tohave sexy gurls at the desk, maybe bring some flowers or something and then you might get the 6 minutes of help for free.....

I'm pretty sure every x-type can get it I was just hoping that you didn't so I could be like I know for a fact that it can be done...the dealers near me were both pretty cool to me so I shouldn't have any problems...what do they charge for 1/2 hour??? Probably 100+ dollars an hour eh?
