Default locked keys in the truck of my 2001 jaguar x-type

Hi I just locked my key in my trunk I have no spare the whole car is locked up and I have read multiple things saying there holes behind the license plate that give access to the emergency trunk release but the holes on mine are far to small to fit any tools in or even shine a lite in so am I missing something any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum mcalister,

A recent thread on this topic doesn't hold good news for a 'quick fix':

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-x-type-89198/

The release through the holes behind the licence plate applies to X300 and X308 but I don't think it applies to X-Type. Members with this model will be able to advise.

Good luck.

Bust out the left tail light and reach in to release the rear seat latch or the 'glow-in-the-dark' child safety release if your country has mandated it's installation.

We asked this very question when we went to NP02 (New Product 2002) training and we were told to break the left tail lamp assy.

Years later I had to do this very thing to a customer car before we got a key cutting machine.

You can have a key cut from your VIN but it won't start the car until it is configured to your car.

No offense but only a crazy person would only have ONE key to a car!!!!!!!
It is cheaper to get a key when you don't need it than to panic and have to get one in an emergency. YOU WILL PAY MORE WHEN YOU ARE DESPERATE!!!!!!

Just my experience from years at the dealer.

Welcome to the forum mcalister,

Don't forget your intro in the new members section.

You may not want to break anything but do you have a choice?

Ouch.

A new tail light from a dealer in Italy is going to be expensive. Your lowest cost option will be sourcing one from a UK breaker and having it shipped to Italy.

Don't break anything. That would be foolish. Just take proof of ownership to a dealer and they will be able to cut you a valet key. It won't start the car but it will get you inside to get your keys.
