Looking to buy X-Type for cross country road trip- need advice
So I'm looking to buy a Jaguar X-Type before moving across country from Los Angeles to Boston. Obviously to make this trip go smoothly, I need to make sure I buy the right car and get certain things checked out before embarking upon such an adventure.
I'm looking for a 2006+ with less than 100K (miles) and then get it serviced beforehand.
My question to you as an experienced Jaguar owner is, what would you recommend? Should I look for lower mileage? Is mileage of concern in 2006+ Jaguars? Is there anything specific I should look for when buying/servicing the car? Any modifications recommended?

These are good cars; regarding preparation for a cross-country trip, I suggest changing all fluids, including the transfer case fluid (600 ml maximum of 75w140 synthetic). Check that the air scoop for cooling the transfer case is in place (they go missing. If you look under the car from the front you will easily see it if it is fitted. It will be the lowest thing on the engine. If it is not in place any Jaguar dealer can get it for you, and you can put it on yourself as it is held by just one bolt and a locating peg).
Other than that, you will find the X-Type to be a wonderful highway car, smooth, powerful at speed, and very stable. Really a joy to drive.
As always, buy the best you can afford.

I've had my car less than a year, but suggest you search for private owner who has pampered his car and has the service history. Look at FS section of this forum to see if there's any listed in your area. After that look at Autotrader, Craigslist and Ebay. I doubt you'll see an X-Type in a Jaguar dealership's used car inventory. I'll echo sov211 - wife and I took our car on a 2k mile road trip last fall and were impressed by how it performed.

I came across the following listing. It's hard to find late models (06-08), its not my first choice of colour and the mileage is well over 100k.
So, good deal or bad deal? Should I be wary of a higher mileage x-type? The owner tells me the service record is good and done 2 months ago. Anything to look out for when viewing it?
