Default looking for control arms

Hello every one.
I'm looking to replace myll the control arms on the rear of my 2002 x type. Any advice on the best place to purchase these parts at the most reasonable price would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for the help...

daniel, if you are looking at the either of the lower arms, look on e-bay or you are stuck going to the dealership. That is the only place that I am aware that they are available from. If you are going through a dealership, I would recommend using 2 of the vendors here (JPLV and Jaguarparts.com). Jaguarparts is a dealership out of Cleveland, OH (fairly close to you) and if you do things on the internet, they will have pretty decent prices. JPLV is a Jaguar-Porsche dealership in Las Vegas and those guys you can talk to on the phone and if you tell them that you are a member here, they will take care of you. I have used both and had good response from both.

If you are looking at the upper arm for the rear suspension, take a look at: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rol-arm-88530/. In short, the arms from a Volvo S40 work on our cars and you can find some pretty nice ones for fairly cheap (ie, you get the pair for the cost of 1 through Jag). Lots of write ups from members that have done this and also it gives you the ability to adjust the camber of your rear tires so that they are sitting where they should be.

The inside of both the rear tires are completely bald.. I can see that one of the bushings on the lower arm is completely separated... can I assume that the uppers should be replaced as well?

Daniel, if you are in there doing the work, then it probably is not a bad idea as I have found that once the one set starts to go, the other is normally about a year or so behind. A must. By no means. But, if you are there, might as well.

but you can also check out

RockAuto Parts Catalog <---- link

I found the sway bar links here

I also did the front end at the same time
they have controlarms for $68-$78

check the shipping as i know the moog come from the UK the RAYBESTOS may be your best bet
I also got both inner and outer tie rod ends at the same time with a 100K on the car and having everything out i figured it was worth the extra hours work plus i already know i would have to have an alignment. killing two birds do to speak.

I also got my alignment at a FORD dealership as the Focus has a similar set up *** our Kittys

Chris,
question for you I see that the aftermarket focus parts offers and adjustable lower control arm have you tried that yet?

Looks to me as they will send you the 2 as it states "KIT" and they picture 2
if i were you for piece of mind i would ask the seller if it is both or just one.

Remember these arms are a little long for our cars so you have to remove the lock nut so you can adjust them I also had to cut about 20mm off the bolt so i could adjust them very easy to do.

they do work !!! i have them installed on mine no more inner tire wear.
Please "thank" thermo for finding this he deserves the credit

Daniel: Go with Thermo's advise on the adjustable upper control arms. I went thru 2 sets of tires, each lasting only ~20K miles because the inner tread wore prematurely. Now, with adjustable upper control arms, the rear camber is corrected and tires last much longer.

To answer your question on upper control arms, the $88 eBay listing by dtpmotorsport is for one, i.e., $176 for two. I purchased a pair for $130, now listed for $140 including S&H from this eBay seller with 99.8% positive feedback on 21+K transactions:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Rear-Upper...71da63&vxp=mtr

For lower control arms, try Googling this part #: MS101044. It's a Mevotech brand lower control arm. Should cost you $65-75 a pair with S&H. Many on-line vendors list them, but not everyone has them in stock, so call or e-mail before placing your order.

Upper and lower control arms are easy to install. Since you're in Syracuse, the hardest part will be breaking 12 years of road salt rust off the old bolts. Get yourself a good rust penetrating fluid, apply liberally a day or two in advance, and tap the bolts with a hammer - vibrations help the oil penetrate. It's doable - my 2002 X-Type spent it's early years in Rochester, NY. Reassembly is much faster with a little grease on the rusted threads.

Good luck.

Did the lowers you purchased come with the bushings pressed in? I've been researching the same parts, and that is the lowest price I've seen

Yes, Mevotech MS101044 lower control arms come with new bushings. See attached pic's.

My factory original lower control arms had bushings so worn at ~110 kmiles that the old Jag squeaked like a Conestoga wagon on every bump. It's hard to pretend your Jag is a sporty, luxury ride when it squeaks more than an old bed. Silicone spray would quiet them for only a month or so.

Also, the worn bushings on both upper and lower control arms cause my rear tires to lean in at the top, i.e., too much negative camber, causing premature inner tread wear, hence new tires every 20 kmiles.

These Mevotech MS101044 lower control arms with their new bushings, plus adjustable upper control arms (THANKS THERMO!) got rid of the squeaks and the camber problem.

FYI, Pep Boys lists Mevotech MS101004's on eBay $22 each, plus $5 S&H for 1, $7 S&H for 2. $51 including S&H is a great price for a pair. Here's the auction:

That is exactly why I will be doing mine. Does the ride itself feel any better? I have 150000+ miles, it's time for some restoration.

Yes, at ~125K miles the ride is tighter, quieter & smoother. I can't judge how much improvement resulted from new tires, rear upper or rear lower control arms, since I replaced all three at the same time. But the result is definitely an improved ride, and the tires now wear evenly, staying balanced longer, with less road noise and vibration.

I also fixed excess negative camber in the front suspension. The factory does not provide any way to adjust front camber. So as the bushings wear, you get too much negative camber, i.e., the tops of the tires tilt inward, causing the inner tread to wear prematurely. The proper long-term solution is new front control arms. But as a quick fix, I elongated the holes in the strut towers and brought the front camber back to spec - see attached pic.

Awesome, that is what I needed to hear. I took a look at the bushings a few weeks ago while I was changing differential fluid, and they are worn beyond belief. I noticed the wheel slant shortly after I bought the car, 10000 miles ago, and I've been slacking, or rather tending to more pressing issues. Thank you for the pep boys tip, my dumb *** just typed in lower control arms and most of what cane up was parts from UK with 30$ shipping. Part numbers help, obviously!
