Lost Key

Lost Key
Unfortunately, this might be my last post on the group. I was at work when I locked the car and Now the key is nowhere to be found. I work at the beach so worst case it fell on the street or the sand. I don't have a spare key and I can buy a key and get cut but I'm not sure what else will be needed to be done for the key to work. I have tools in the trunk and I've heard the countless nightmare stories getting into the trunk without a key. I'll need to tow the car home, get everything out of the car and send it to the junkyard as the rest of the car isn't worth selling.

The first step is getting a key. The dealer can cut one using the VIN. Once you have a key you can access the vehicle, get it out of park and open the trunk. You will still have to have the vehicle delivered to the dealer for the key to be programmed, but once that is done all will be well.

A suggestion to folks. Do keep a note of the code for your key ( The T code. )
There are many guides on line - How to read Tibbe key code .
e.g.

The X type has a six cuts key
Ford Tibbe keys will do the job and are probably easier to source but without the remote buttons.
The key, simply cut to the correct code will then allow you to get the door open.
However if it does not a have chip or a correctly coded chip the security system will quickly trigger the alarm.
The key ( with a chip in it ) needs to be coded to the PATS system
Passive Anti-Theft Systems (PATS), also called Ford Securilock, is a vehicle security feature introduced on 1996 and later Ford vehicles.
Used on X types too.
This is usually the expensive part for most folks.
