If it was cold outside with precipitation, it could have been the a part of the right front area of the car getting frozen because of ice. That happened to me yesterday.

It could also be your wheel bearing... Do the wheel bearing test where you turn the car and see if you hear a bearing whine from the affected wheel.

Hope its just the ice...

After it did that did the car drive normally? Are there any sounds right now? Did the steering or handling change at all? Does it drive normally now after that half block? Any warning lights on the dash?

Not a whole lot of information to go on.

Sorry for the delay. Wasn't cold (I live in LA :-). And drove fine afterward, but recently since purchasing it I have noticed that there is some slack in the steering wheel. The slack wasn't there when I drove it home and I felt it before the "snap" incident...

Sounds like your car tore it's ACL.

Haha ;-)
Also, my driver side front tire has insane wear on it (I can see the tread). The rest of the wheel (s) are almost 90%.

Check if your brakes are binding to your wheel. Just had a problem like that that caused uneven wear on mine. Jack the car up and set blocks behind the rear wheels so you can take it out of gear. Then with the wheel off of the ground, try to rotate it. If it doesnt rotate then I would say you need to check your wheel bearing and then check if your brake pads are worn evenly. If your brakes are all even then I would say you need to investigate your wheel bearing

Could be CV joint. Try putting it in full lock and then drive off. If you only get the noise when moving off from full steering wheel lock then it's likely to be the CV joint.

thank you Disguay, I'll try this...

Dale, do you mean press the brakes and the gas, then let go of the brakes...? like a brake stand?

If you have slack in your steering that sounds like it might be a safety issue. I am certainly no expert, but something like that would be something you would want to have checked out as soon as possible. If there was such a long snapping sound sand after your steering was affected something has to be compromised and that might lead to a greater failure. Would hate to see something happen to you or your car that could be avoided. Hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

I think what dale means is to turn your wheels to one side until they can't turn anymore and then drive. I do believe that is what "full lock" means but correct me if my interpretation is different. And I agree with alpha. Check this soon and avoid interstates

No, not a brake stand. From a complete stop, apply full steering lock. Then slowly drive away. Do this on both left and right steering lock. If you get a loud snapping then it's your CV joints on the front halfshafts (driveshafts).
