Lowering springs
Are the lowering springs something you can install yourself at home or is it more in the advanced category? It seems like something that's pretty basic, but I remember looking at the instructions and it seemed like there was a lot of high tech stuff going on and some special tool was needed, but when I look under my car they're just right there and it seems like it wouldn't be too hard.

It is a pretty basic job and most of the annoying part is either removing old bolts or not being strong enough to push control arms out of the way to either remove a strut assembly or a spring.
As for tools: a spring compressor IS required for this job in order to well uhh... compress the spring to remove the strut mount. I think you can either rent or borrow a set from Autozone or the like.
I am completely sold on H&R springs. The ride and handling is incredible and makes the car feel like a Jaguar should in the twisty bits. Plus it makes it look a lot more aggressive. A set will cost you around $250.

Biggest PITA I ran into was getting the damn struts out of their fittings on the hub. I was also trying to do it myself. Once I got a friend over, we did each front in about an hour and each rear in about 30 minutes. The tricks with the rear is to just pull the easy bolts on the control arms so the lower arm can just swing away.
