Default lowering springs..eibach?

im doing a drop project on my cts...so the X type is going to be next...maybe.
so, has anyone run eibachs on their x type? right now shes sittin on 20s no rubbing and looks to have a lot of space. what else needs to be changed when you do the springs on these cars?
the website says its a 1-1.5" drop..i guess that depends on which trim package you have.

exexpat...im looking in your direction for info on rims width and max offsets.

It looks like you have about 20x8 with 235/30/20s, right? With a 40mm offset (another guess), you are fine with H&R/Eibach springs. Your wheels/tires are effectively the same dimensions as the factory 225/40/18.

Tip: try to cut a half coil out of the front springs, they sit a little nose high othewise.

Ya I think the rims are 8 or 8.5, tires are 225/30/20. But the tires are very streched so probably 8"...not sure the offset, I'm gonna try to look it up online or ill just call the rim shop we got them from.

How stiff are the eibachs and the h&r? Anyone on here have them? It already rides very stiff, I don't wnat to make it bad, but want to get rid of some wheelgap.
Would I be better off cutting 1 coil off the stockers? Coil cutting just seems wrong..

H&Rs are comfortable. The ride stiffness you have now is because of the factory Sport suspension package. The spring rates will be comparable and the H&Rs will only lower you about an inch. If 225 looks stretch, you may have 8.5 or 9" wheels. 20x9 is common in 5x108 because that is the fitment for the Volvo XC90 and there are probably more XC90s with custom wheels on them than all X, S, XF Jags, all Volvos and Ford Thunderbirds combined. Still not a high number though

ya i know shes got the stiffest (of close to it) suspension from factory, i like how it handles.
so are you saying that h&r and eibachs will be similar stiffness or h&r is similar to stock?

just checked the shops website i got the rims from..says they are 20 x 8.5
these are the only options they make the rim in:
Size : 20x8.5 , 22x8.5 , 22 x9
Lug Type : Acorn
Finish : Chrome With Black inserts

heres the best pic i have showing the strech

Yep, not quite as aggressive as the 20x9s I have with 225/30, but respectable. Rears camber in as you go lower, so nothing to worry about there if you aren't rubbing now and you'll still have gap in front, so I still say you chop half a coil from whatever end is not pigtailed.

I have a 38mm offset on my wheels which are 18x8. Tires are 225/40/18 and they do rub a little when I hit a bump at highway speeds. So just be careful about your offset. I think 40mm would be your best bet. It would still look good and not be a pain. You have no idea how annoying it is to be driving and randomly rub because you hit a bump.

My car is in the shop now getting new bilsteins so we'll see if that helps the bouncy-ness of the car and prevents some rubbing.

Worse comes to worse if you did run a more aggressive offset you could always roll your fenders. (professionally) not baseball bats, hammers, or mallets!

Another thing I should probably let you know is that the wider you space out your wheels the more debris is going to kick up on your car. If you have noticed our cars taper in towards the bottom which will expose more tire which which will kick up more debris onto the paint. So it's a trade off between paint defects and good looks.

edit- I have H&R's but beware depending on how many miles you have on your car, you will have to change out the stock struts and shocks because they will inevitably blow out within a year. I've had mine since Dec, 2009 and I'm having them replaced now.

Amen, too bad it's our only hope.
