Both are reputable vendors who know their business.

The guidance towards the shank type is good and you can find multiple references on the internet that will help you understand what the differences are and why they are important. Tirerack may even have a tech article on the subject.

You could always post a picture of one of the lugnut positions on a wheel with the lugnut removed and the stud showing through.
As I've already said, I'm aware of the differences. I've seen multiple opinions from reputable sources, yet there is still no definitive answer.

If you go to the McGard website and put in my specific make and model, all of the results for the lug nut category are the washer-less, tapered kind. And as you said, they are a reputable vendor that knows their business.

I've also said that I don't have aftermarket wheels so anyone familiar with an X-Type (or I suspect most Jaguar models) will know what the wheel fitment looks like on OEM wheels.

Why not post a pic of your wheels, otherwise we are all guessing.

I will try to find the information re McGard.
I found the lug nuts with washers for X types.

I've seen multiple opinions from reputable sources, yet there is still no definitive answer.

If you look at the Jaguar UK web site you will see McGard locking wheel nuts as an accessory ( from I think 2008 - prior to that they offered the familiar dome type Jaguar ones)
They come in a little box and are about twice the price of McGard off the web. There is just one type offered.
I will try to find the weblink

I have never seen a X type on steel wheels in the UK so perhaps that is why only washer types are for sale by Jaguar.

I am happy to accept that Jaguar have good reason to offer this version and I will be happy to believe that Jaguar has the definitive answer.

Having never seen the X-Type wheel up close and personal and *not* being familiar with the X-Type ....

The XJ and XK factory wheels are definitely mag type with shank, and the shank has to be the right diameter/length.

For the 17" wheels on the X-Type from JEPC, one of the part numbers (varies by vin) is C2C35294. The usual line drawing on the right side of the JEPC screen shows a mag-type with shank.

Punch the number into ebay. There are currently 12 listings. Every single set offered is mag-type shank. I'll leave it to someone else to explore all the other JEPC listings for other sizes and other vins.

The ebay listings includes a listing by MotorCars Ltd, a big independent Jaguar parts source.
