Matching a replacement door
Hi all- thank you in advance for your help :-) My cherished X-Type was damaged and I'm planning to replace the rear passenger door outright instead of repairing it. My question is this: I found a donor door from a 2003 X-Type- will this fit my 2005 X-Type? I could not find information regarding whether they ever changed the doors. Thank you again!

Hi Kris,
I believe physical dimensions will be the same, likely the hinges will be the same too.
Door seals, window regulators etc appear to be the same part numbers throughout.
Electrically the stock door for both years is almost identical, but according to the SNG Barrett parts list there was a change in part numbers for the door latches (both non deadlock and deadlock versions) up to the VIN J31404 and later part numbers beyond VIN L31405.
Further expanding that thought is whether either your car or the donor car has the "Double locking" option which dictated which door latch type is fitted to the door (regardless of VIN revision).
If either door has double locking feature, the loom into the door has some extra wires and the door latch assembly in the door has two additional actuator switches, so if that were the case you might need to be transferring the relevant door latch and wiring harness over to keep the donor door matching the same spec as the one you are replacing.
Lastly is what sound system yours and the donor car has fitted. The standard sound system just had a full range speaker in the door, whereas the premium sound system cars had an additional tweeter in the rear doors, so that too would require some swapping our to keep the correct feature and loom compatibility.
