Well i got the 3.0 and i had a **** load of weight, my self:240 lbs, my other 3 friends 230lbs, 175lbs and 163lbs ( we work out together and weigh each other) so tats a total of 810lbs if my math is right and is 367.40Kg !!! However um not saying the x-type is slow at all, just that the rpm and gear changes are a little sluggish and even the throttle response lags behind when you step on the pedal or even when you floor it, i did add a K&N filter and noticed some difference at higher speeds. But at the end the X is not ment to race, its mearly a enterly level luxury car which it really keeps its Jaguar heritage up to inside and out.

Yea I don't like the sluggish throttle response and lack of torque below 3000 rpm. Once above 3000 all the way to redline its decent. But if you are cruising in 5th and want to pass, it takes a long time for the transmission to downshift. I use the J-Gate 99% of the time to remedy this.

J gate or just keep the sport button on. But you are right, I certainly wouldn't say the low end of the 2.5 is satisfying in any way. I've learned to beat the other guy to the skinny pedal when trying to merge, a little intuition goes a long way.

Where you can shine however, is in the twisties, where the predictable understeer of the X allows you to get on the gas through the apex so much better than any FWD out there, even if they have a limited slip.

The best way to squeeze a little more performance out of the 2.5 is to try to reduce the weight of the vehicle. My aftermarket wheel and tire combo weighs about half of the OEM set up. Much easier than trying to shed 30lbs off my 6'5" frame! lol....

Other than that just accept is as the classic touring sedan that it is and go home knowing you look much better than that guy in the Sentra, no matter how quick you are.

Even with the Sport mode on while the car is in 5, the car is still sluggish. There are a few times I see a hole and want to switch lanes, but by the time i push the pedal down all the way, and the car finally downshifts, the hole is gone. So I just use the J-Gate now and i'm downshifted and ready to pass as soon as there is an opening. I usually leave it in 4 if I'm driving less than 45 mph.

Yes being able to take corners while under hard acceleration is awesome. Very few can keep pace with me there. I set my tires pressures to 35F and 33R and the understeer was reduced. Had a more RWD feel. And I also use performance tires. Not the touring ones that came with the car. So car handles decent.

But yes intuition helps a lot. I watch the intersecting street's lights and see if there is a person in the left turn lane across from me and I know if I will get the green light or the green arrow will come first. That helps a lot. Plus I judge the car when it comes up next to me knowing if I have a chance or not. Like if a 911 rolled up next to me. I'm not gonna be a dick and try to beat him. But if its Hyundai accent with like 100 hp, I know I will be able to get in front.

good points. I also run performance tires and they make a difference, mostly with braking. The X is a confidence inspiring machine in the twisties, no doubt. I think our early models have a little more RWD feel than some of the later models.

I hear ya about that hesitation to downshift - you ever punch it to kick it down, then realize you are not going to make it so you lay off the pedal, and then the car has no idea whether to kick it down or not and you almost over-rev the motor? Took me a while to figure out how to avoid that one.

Beating people off the line is not much of an issue here, since everyone has thier head up their Blackberry all the time. It's so bad, as soon as everyone stops for a light, that's all you see are cell phones and Blackberrys.

87, 89, 93 (Except Cali has 91, not 93). I think cali plus a few other states have Sunoco 94 and there are some gas stations that have even higher octane.

Pennsylvania usually has 87, 89, 91, 93, and occasionally 94. Most stations go 87, 89, and then either 91 or 93. Same here with Sunoco, they are the only ones I can think of that have 94.
