Default mileage

what type of miles has anyone put on their 2003 jaguar x type 2.5? I have 69,000. What type of miles can I expect to get out of this car? What types of issues has anyone had with this model? I have talked to the previous owner, and he said he never had any major issues, so that was good clarity for me. However, I want to know what others have experienced in regards to miles, and reliability.

Thanks a bunch

quartz, first off, welcome to the forums. I think you will find a lot of useful information here.

As for the mileage that you can expect out of the car, you can easily get 300K miles out of the car as long as you maintain it. Ignore it or abuse it and it will be very expensive to get it out to even 200K miles.

As for things that affect the longevity of the car, the big one is if you are wanting the X-Type to be a sports car. If you do that, plan on replacing the transfer case every 30K miles or so to the tune of about $3000 a time. After that, you may find that the car will be mostly affected by a lean condition (error codes P0171 and P0174). The fixes for this are normally very easy and very cheap to correct. The other common problems are the e-brake levers freezing up, ABS sensor rings on the rear of the car rust and fall to pieces, and the coolant overflow bottle will tend to crack. But, like with any car, they all have "common" problems. We just happen to know what they are and can offer up quick fixes that normally doesn't cost too much to fix.

Thanks Chris, thats great to hear, and honestly, i absolutely plan on my x type being just another standard car, no heavy speeding etc. so I assume, as long as I do not abuse it, I wont lose it, Its just nice to hear someone else say that as well. Any other info you or anyone can share would be great.

Thanks all.

quartz, the big "problem" that I have with my Jag is that I notice the e-brake will tend to get light and I will be able to pull it all the way up. This is a sign that one of your e-brake levers are starting to stick and you need to change out a rear caliper. I haven't seen many postings where there has been good long term luck in fixing the lever. The good thing is that the caliper is easy to replace and not to expensive (about $130 at your local NAPA).

ENjoy Omaha. I loved my time there. Granted, I am a big Union Pacific rail fan, so, I had lots of fun out in that area and over towards Laramie.

I bought mine last year with 114,000 miles, replaced a rear bearing (less than $125) and had no other problems.

I use my e-brake daily without issue and except for a misfire every now and then, no problems.

(except 1 squeeky rear brake when it gets warm)

Going on 118,000 now.

Just wondering, with most of our cars being automatics what do people use the E-brake for?

When I go I go, when I stop I put it in park. I don't think I've even tried my E-brake in the 3+ years I've owned my car...

its a "parking brake" and try not using it in the many hilly cities in the us and find a ticket on the window.
I have 185k on 02, 3.0 and just replaced the original hoses and belts. Previous owner did not take car of the car. So my parts bill at work was $1000(my cost) and several days of labor

My '04 has 150K on the clock. Nothing for the first 100k. Normal stuff, brakes, tires, fluids and filters. But now, wheel bearings, shocks and struts, fan module, rear upper control arms and sway bar bushings.

My '05 has ~67K miles and I've owned it since 9/08. T-case, suspension bushings, 3xdoor speakers, door key-lock, all replaced under warranty

I've paid for new tires, disks/rotors, fluids/filters

pab, I look at it this way, do you want to trust your car remaining in the same spot through the use of something the size of your brake pads or an 1/8" steel pin? That is all the bigger the parking pawl is inside of the tranny. Not to mention, if you are parked on a hill and you let the car "fall" (ie, roll the 2-3 inches) on to the parking pawl, over time that will actually cut the parking pawl pin and result in one day you putting the car in park and it continuing to roll down the hill. I'm sure that will make for an interesting day. The parking pawl is meant to be a backup to the emergency brake, not the emergency brake being the back up to the parking pawl.

Good advice, I don't regularly park on steep hills, but I will certainly consider using the parking brake from now on when I do.

Quoting Thermo: "As for the mileage that you can expect out of the car, you can easily get 300K miles out of the car as long as you maintain it. Ignore it or abuse it and it will be very expensive to get it out to even 200K miles."

That's really good news. I just hit 100K and my Jag is doing great.
