Default Miss fire Cylinder 1

sat for have recently picked up a 02 X Type with the 2.5 L V 6. The car sat for several years before I purchased it’ and had bee running fine for a couple weeks. Recently it started running rough and misfiring. The code comes up as a miss fire on cylinder 1. Just prior to the miss fire I added a bottle of sea foam injector cleaner. The weather also turned and we had several days of sleet and rain. I am planning on replacing the spark plugs and coil packs this next week. I am wondering if it would be wise to replace the injectors while I have the intake off. A set of injectors are not cheap, and I don’t want to replace them if I don’t have to. If there a way to test or clean the injectors.

Hank, I would first get the intake off and see what you have. The X-Types are known for leaking seals for the coils (COPS - coils on plugs). It is possible that because the car sat for awhile, these seals have dried up and are now leaking and it has just taking a bit for the oil and/or water to fill up that plug well. If that is the case, then a valve cover job is in your future. If the plug well is dry, then I would do a quick check of the top of the COP. The clear can develop white hair line cracks which can allow water into the COP and create all sorts of hell. If the top looks good, then I would swap the COPs for cylinders 1 and 2. This will put the questionable COP in a spot that you can change it out without having to remove the intake. You can then drive the car and see if the problem moves are stays. If it moves, then you know it is the COP. If it doesn't, then it is most likely the injector. With problems like this, it is far more likely to be a COP than an injector.

Ditto on what Thermo Said. While you had the intake off, I would highly recommend just going ahead and replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets... Taking the intake off is 90% of the job, you're already there, they're known to leak, and a set off Lower+Uppers(which come with new IMRC O-Rings) from Fel-Pro is less than $25

I already have the gaskets, plugs, COPs, and just was lacking the time to replace them. I am hoping to get a chance to be able to take care of that this week.

I just didn't know how problematic the injectors are on that vehicle. Since the intake will be off and the injectors exposed, I didn't know if replacing the injectors would be worth it.

Thank you for the information.
