Ok, so my headlights are pretty bright, but by no means do they look like the newer high class cars out there like BMW and Benz, or even Lexus. I know that D2S bulbs are xenon, but is there any other way to confirm?
I'm going to buy replacement bulbs and want to make sure I don't buy some D2S xenon bulbs for nothing.
For anyone else interested I buy my xenon stuff here - http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p...=264&parent=85
They have excellent pricing, fast shipping, and lifetime warranty on their kits if you are upgrading from halogen to xenon.
P.S. I tried searching for "D2S" but apparently its too short.

It turns out that it DOESN'T mean you have xenon from the factory, which I don't understand AT ALL! Why would you stamp D2S on a housing if its not being used?
I guess that means that its the same overall housing that the factory equipped xenon cars use, just different bulb fixture. Audi does the same thing on Euro cars, halogen headlamps have the E-Code pattern just like the factory xenon ones.

so do you have xenon or not ? you can just check and see if you have a xenon bulb in there, or a ballast or ignitor.
when you turn your lights on, are they real bright initially, then dim and regain brightness ? if so then you have xenon
bmw and mercedes usually have 3" projectors with very colorful cutoff's. lexus has 2.5" projectors with a really crisp and wide cutoff and throw.
if im not mistaken jaguar uses valeo 2.5" projectors which in general are pretty much garbage. valeo hid projectors have the same width and throw as there halogen counterpart with a pNp hid kit. only difference between the two are the hid projectors are tweaked to eliminate any hotspots, where as the halogen projectors have hotspots right on the center of the pattern.
in short, for the x-type it really makes no difference if the hid is factory or not. both headlamps have projectors so an aftermarket kit is sufficient for most.
