My Jag hit 150K miles!
To Everyone worried about their Jags....
my 2002 2.5 5-speed just hit 150K miles. but everything works as the first day I got it (at 141k miles) about a year ago.
After a few failed attempts to sell my car on Craigslist to put the money into an S4...I said screw it, the Jag gets amazing MPGs and looks dead sexy I'll just keep it until it runs into the ground.
I am currently in the process of replacing the suspension (just purchased the Bilstines), but I was also wondering if I should change the timing chain? I'm also going to get the 'squeeky steering wheel additive'. Also I want to change the differencial fluid change as well. Antyhing else I can do to make sure it goes up to 200k?
Thanks Everyone!

RE: My Jag hit 150K miles!
Great to hear and congrats! Mine has a bit over 70k currently. I would say the timing chain should last to 200k without service. I had a 7-series BMW for a while and the tech I took itto said the chain on that I-6 would last up to 200k without needing to be touched. At least it is not like the Timing belt on my Porsche that need to be replaced every 45k. I put 240k miles on my old Porsche before selling (orig clutch too) so I am extraordinarily confident the X-type can make that mark and break it.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! I bought mine with 80K 2months ago. It's an X-Type, Sport, 2.5L Stick shift. When I test drove it, the feel was tight and smooth and I generally just got a good feeling from the car. I got no service records with it but seems that someone took good care of this car. I know that if I spent $40K on a new car I would. Another indicator to me is that it has Michelin tires (225 45 R17) which I've priced at about $900 for a set of 4 installed. Kinda pricey, maybe this used to be somebody's baby! LOL
In any case, I love this car and I get a lot from this forum. I troll thru the threads looking for preventive maintenance I can do on my own. So far I've replaced the TC oil and the R diff. oil. I stopped at the trans b/c I didn't know how to refill it. I understand that there's a fill plug on it somewhere.
Outside of that, I replaced that plastic pipe that lies along side the intake under the plastic engine cover; it tends to develop a split and cause jerking behavior. $12.00 at the dealer. I also replaced the front brake pads with ceramic pads. And, yesterday I put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (Techron).
So, next will be to replace the trans oil with RedLine MT90 Synthetic, install new Spark Plugs, and, bleed the brakes. When I do the trans, I will also re-replace the TC oil & R diff. oil to flush 'em.
I seriously just want my Jag to be a reliable ride and do what it does, Turn heads. The 2.5L has some power if you're good with the stick shift. I don't do hard launches but when I am at speed I hold it around 3800 rpms and then all you have to do is step on it and it moves pretty good.
I plan to keep my Jag for a long time, ....

A million miles! Damn! that car should be studied by scientists and its secrets revealed! I had an 84 T-bird that was beat to hell when I got it for $700 in Boston. This car looked like it had been stolen about 9 times. But it ran and it ran strong. I proceeded to drive that thing for 7 years until 2006; even drove it here to Tucson where I live now. I put very little money into it over the years. It had problems like when the cruise ctrl got stuck at 80miles an hour on the fwy once.
Anyway, I sold it for $300, still running, to kid who took his friends out and did nothing but burn outs in it until finally driving it into a ditch. The car died with about 225K miles. I was kind of angry to hear what that idiot did, but hey it's a free country!
I'm sure my Jag has this same spirit as that old T bird!
