Default i believe my mondeo 2.0 tdci runs near on the same as a jag

Hi i have a mondeo 2.0 tdcil i get the flashing coil spring light on a journey then car cuts out completely i do the dangerous thing turn ignition off then back on again not turning it over just so dash lights are on dip clutch for a bump staet and of i go like normal but as days go on the worse its getting..ford dealer done tests on car found nothing put it down to injectors so had new ones fitted still same problem...today coil spring light flashing but this time didn`t cut out just went into limp mode lucky for me i have a mobile mechanic few doors down i just managed to get to him before car cut out and he managed to do a diagnostic with the coil spring light still flashing as we didn`t turn ignition off...the reading came back as faulty diesel fuel pump but some forums suggest a faulty maf air flow sensor can set of a wrong reading been advised egr injectors injector pump done all these £1500 later still the same so tomorrow i am going to clean the maf air flow sensor or may be replace and see if it makes a difference i believe the mas air flow sensor tell the brain on how much fuel to burn/pump if maf is faulty i assume its telling the fuel pump to shut off causing the limp mode

Thanks DJC for the costings....i was expecting about £150 each injector. So reckon I should be up and running for about £500.

They have said that the EGR valve was very dirty and this could cause the issues. They are going to clean it out and give it back to me to try.

I used G&D auto services - an independent Jaguar Specialist based in Welwyn Garden City - just off the Mundells roundabout.

So far they have managed to fix any/every fault the cars have ever had, first time. They are quite thorough and will take the car for a test drive both in town and up and down the A1M to satisfy themselves that its fixed before they return it. As you will see from reading the thread, the problem with the first car was with the pump and the second was with the injectors. The symptoms were similar in both cases; inadequate fuel delivery - 2nd time around the injectors were returning most of the fuel back to the pump instead of delivering it to the cylinder. I recollect that the pump problem did bring up a different diagnostic code though.

If your problem is with the injectors, budget for ~£200 per bad injector. The pump problem was fixed under warranty and I don't remember how much it cost, but I don't remember it being particularly expensive.

Had it diagnosed by local garage as all 4 fuel injectors failing following a leak test, dubious all four would fail so took it to a Jag specialist and diagnosed same problem. Had all four replaced, not cheap £135 each plus 4 hours labour £780 plus Vat. Problem resolved but at a cost.
What was your mileage on when they needed changing

Default help!

i have read trough all this and my x-type is the same problems, had the injectors changed a few mouths back and it ran ok bit of of black smoke,
EGR is capped tested the glow plugs all working the coil light flashes and engines lights on and stays on even when you turn the key also remove the battery for a night there both still on, it starts bad some times cuts out but in limp now after a few mins the car is ok but low on power also have two codes P2336 and P0380 any help is much appreciated.

its like the glow plugs are not working but then i tested them with a 12v battery they do all the wires look ok i even put a wire across the relay and the glow plugs on all the time and the car starts ok is there a fuse i need to look at or a module if there is where is it ? or could it be the electronic turbo actuator as some one posted ??

Default I no longer have an X type but....

So I encountered this problem with both my X types. The first was a fuel pump problem. The second was leaky injectors. By the time I got it sorted fuel was being returned almost as fast as it was being delivered. I had to drive with avery delicate touch on the accelerator to avoid the engine cutting out but was getting over 200 mpg !!! It seems that this a generic problem and that they all suffer at about 100k miles. I was unlucky as it occurred at about 70k. I blame it on cheap supermarket fuel.
Is it safe to drive like that? Only if you can handle sudden loss of power and power assist to brakes and steering. I became very adept at turning the ignition off and back on without pulling over.

Many times I have had the issue of my car going into emergency mode and the engine cutting out. I have now done over 330K kilometers! Without touching the engine, only to blank off EGR valve. When in emergency mode I restart engine and drive gently to the nearest petrol station, buy a can of injector cleaning fluid and after a while (one or two days) car runs OK. My recomendation is once this starts to happen to your car then add this cleaning fluid at every fill up. Not cheap but...... effective
