Dennis,

Don't know if I overlooked your info but did you post somewhere the dimensions of your avn5500 so we know if there are other head unit options beyond Eclipse.

Seems my searches on Eclipse double d's do not turn up any info on their size specifications at least where the avn5500 and simiular models are concerned.

I have read many other forums on the web where everyone says none of the standard double d's fit in the x jag without modification. I take what they mean by standard is what I see most common headunit sizes are...Dimensions (Main Chassis) 2DIN (7 x 4 x 6-1/2 inches)

Would like to do this conversion but don't want to go through all the hassles of designing a custom face plate.

Can we get the dimensions of your unit?

Mike.

lol Dennis, I hope youre being sarcastic. I agree though most other sites I have seen say some sort of custom cut or fit has to be done for a double din to fit. I haven't attempted it yet, but plan to soon. I think the depth of the Eclipse models are specificed on some retail sites online. What model do you have again, the AVN5500? Please save the trouble of pulling it out.

Dennis,
No need to pull the deck out...all the work and support you offered with your projects is more than enough. Not many would go that far to help others like you...GREAT JOB.

Seems like queensnewbie was able to get the spec's on the AVN5500 and thats all we need to know. I was concerned only about the depth of your unit....6.5 is standard.

Recently installed a Pioneer F90BT in my wifes Rav4. To all the bad raps the F series have got I think the upgrade to from V1 to V2 and now V3 has served this unit well.

Excellent 3D navigation, voice recogination and built in bluetooth to name a few along with avic411.com for support and mods..mods...mods... BUT for the jag...I like the style & looks of your unit MUCH better...Having trouble locating the AVN5500 for a decent price. I know you got yours for $500....that was a great deal.

I'll keep my eyes open and see what happens...worse comes to worse MAYBE I will go with another F90BT beings it's easy to hack plus now I know it will fit in the X.

Thanks again for your dedication.

Mike.

I have the F700BT in my SUV and it does everything, I wasn't disappointed with it as many were, and would recommend it to others. I have 2.0 on it but I heard 3.0 makes it even better. I was considering getting another AVIC for the X-Type after reading this thread by Dennis, just haven't gotten around to it. Only thing that I am still unsure of is how Dennis has done a Double DIN without modification but other sites haven't had his experience. I think i'll trust Dennis on this one.

Queensnewbie,

I hear you on the F700BT. I'm sure you visit avic411.com. Amazing what you can do with these units...did you mod yours?

Not to get side tracked that is why I asked Dennis about the size of his deck...which by the way has the same depth dimension as the avic units according to your findings...I saw another avic install on this site and the fellow had to glass a nexxia & ford kit together to make it fit.

Now if Dennis got his unit to fit why couldn't he do the same? Something just dont make sense here. Dennis's install looks very good and that's the road i want to go.

But like you I have no complaints with our F90BT plus I can get this Unit for $525 shipped from where I bought my first one. It was factory refurbed with 2.0 installed and worked perfect out of the box. It also comes with a warranty through Pioneer.

Well i'm sure we will figure this out sooner or later. I just emailed Nexxia and questioned them if their kit will work with the Pioneer Avic series and if they heard of issues with fitment of the Pioneer units. See what they have to say.

__This is the message I sent to Nexxia regardin the Pioneer Avic F series fitment into x -type__

Note: Avic series...there is a trade off with these units...no steering wheel control module available.

I would like to install a Pioneer avic f90BT ( Dimensions (Main Chassis)
2DIN (7 x 4 x 6-1/2 inches ) in my 2004 x type jag but some say the unit
will fit and others say it will stick out of the facia.

Can you please advise if your car stereo fitting kit will work. (CT24JG02 -
Double Din )I think this is the one I would need.

Also do you carry a steering wheel controler that will work with the Pioneer
f90BT.

If this is not a possibility...can you recomend another head unit with
BT/Navigation built in that would fit and function with the steering wheel
buttons.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Mike

Hi

As far as I know you should be fine using CT24JG02, may also require
DFPK-113 cage.

For steering controls, nothing available for Pioneer but is you use the
Kenwood DNX units you can use PC99-X47 with PC99-KEN.

You will also require PC5-100 antenna adaptor.

fixit- i think we should be fine looking at the whole picture especially after you contacted nexxia. As far as the steering wheel control adapter goes, I used the PAC SWI-PS in my Lincoln Aviator with steering wheel controls and the F700BT's steering wheel control wire. It worked perfectly. It should work in the X-Type with an F series too as long as we can locate the steering wheel control wire in the Jag's harness. PAC audio usually identifies that color wire for you in their chart according to your car. I'll see if I can track it down. If that fails, we would have to find another unit that uses a remote control, and then use one of the universal PAC steering wheel adapters which uses IR technology to have controls through the steering wheel. The double din fit is more what I am concerned about really.

Fix- yup that should work fine, just like the PAC one and fit perfectly with any of the brands listed. Awesome find plus it eliminates the need to buy the harness adapter separately.

The same store is selling it on eBay for $49, I think it would be cheaper through their website though.

Ok, according the the PAC SWI-PS manual, the steering wheel control wire in the Jag harness is located in PIN 19 which is a light blue & yellow wire. that wire will need to be connected to the pioneer steering wheel control input wire through the harnesses or splicing them together. I spliced mine in the Aviator and it was fine.

Queens - Dennis,

You guys got it together...great research & info. I am almost ready to order. Just to keep everyone on base this is the message I got from Dynamic Sounds Ltd. Prices look like they are reasonable.
