Nav Screen Problem
So looks like the Nav screen died. The module has power becuase the climate LCD readout is on, and cycling between "50" and "C1". CI checked fuses, turned car on and off, pulled battery power and put them back... simple stuff, and still no screen display. None of the buttons on the side of the screen work either. Climate control unresponsive and just stays on defrost as well.
Radio works fine.
Has anybody seen this before? I'm dreading taking this to the dealer... no doubt the nav screen will be a high dollar item.
Thanks.

RE: Nav Screen Problem
If you are the kind of guy that thinks cars are "on" and "off" things.. the price will be as high as possible..
There are 4 positions to the key switch, and the engine can be running or not. ..... saying on and off is silly.. it means nothing..
sorry to be a ***** but it is really hard to offer techical advice when things are not crystal clear.
when you say the climate lcd is working? what do you mean? the touch screen is LCD too.
radio works fine? the radio is controlled by the touch screen... does that work?
I have heard of a screen dying completely.. black all the time.. but never that it works for everything except navigation.

RE: Nav Screen Problem
Sorry I should have been more clear. The touchscreen is black. No display whatever I try. The small climate control/clock readout display just below the touchscreen is lit, and cycles what I assume is an error code (listed above.) None of the buttons respond and there are no lights on any of them.
The radio unit below the nav screen works. I can control it from the steering wheel and from the unit itself, but since the Nav screen is black I can't control it from there.
If that makes sense.

RE: Nav Screen Problem
I wonder if you can use a bright light on and shine it on the screen.. sometimes the backlight goes...
I have never dealt with this, but I think all LCDs have a teeny flourescent bulb that fits along the top and bottom.. LCD tvs and laptops do.
That might be repairable by a TV repair shop.. I think that you can see the display with a light shining on it... if that does not work, get ready to bend over....

Correction, it looks like the code is 50 51 C1. I actually looked on JTIS but it was unhelpful. It just said refer to the approved jaguar diagnostic system. It also mentions an ICE code... so I'm not even sure I could replace the display myself if I wanted to (purchase one off ebay or whatever.)
Thanks for looking that up.

RE: Nav Screen Problem
Yeah that's exactly what is going on. Defrost is on.
Any issues with installing one of these myself? The install looks pretty straight forward, but I'm not sure if there are any issues with security codes or pairing it with the existing navigation system.
Thanks for the feedback!

RE: Nav Screen Problem
Ive seen the screen go blank more then twice and both times it ended up being the navigation module in the trunk
only screens ive seen go bad were on xk8"s
for testing purposes its pretty much just plug and play with a known good module
better to pay diag at a dealer or just swap a nav module from another car to yours to verify fault
that is if you know of someone with nav in there Xtype thats willing to let you swap modules to verify your fault
before i spent money on any part with nav faults i"d definently verify module in trunk is or isnt ok first
IE nav module in trunk being module that you insert nav disc into
good luck
