Nav system
Ok, my 2005 x type does not have the navigation system.......yet. I just bought the complete package off of eBay and am now wondering if it will plug into the existing wiring harness?
Has anybody made the swap and will the current wires from the stock a/c and stereo all plug into the navigation system? Will it be a nightmare to even make the attempt?? I bought the DVD player with it as well.
Any info would be appreciated.

RE: Nav system
The Jag nav system is prohibitively expensive to retro fit.It is factory installed and not dealer installed therefore the correct wiring is not in place so it wont plug and play.I looked into this when I bought my X type and it uses a different wiring harness with different wiring lenghts/connectors,etc, for connecting to various control systems like AC,heater controls etc.Amongst other things you also need a DVD player (not CD player) to run the nav discs and a GPS antenna on the rear shelf and let the GEMS module know you have satnav.
Jaguars Paul Grantham at the X type seminar confirmed this as didthe Jag Master Technicianwho upgraded the software on my car to run aJag retro fitted cruise control ataJag dealers.Give your dealer a call and ask him for the part numbers . Also ask them what the price would be to install the system.
PS Let us know if you manage this as you will be the 1st person in the 2 years I have been an X type owner who I have heard of being able to do this.
Because of the above I paid £200 for a TomTom and it can be moved from car to car.
Enjoy the ride...

RE: Nav system
it would be a lot cheaper to get a custom nav instead of the stock. I asked the dealer near me how much to get the stock fitted, and they told me $6k just for the install, so plus parts it wud be close to $8k. Racer got a custom doubledin, and it looks good. check out the thread with his pics.

RE: Nav system
Just traded in my old "new " Road Angel unit today against the Road Angel sat nav 7000 unit.
Really cool, as it costs £300 new and they gave me £110 on my old unit. Taking into account the £20 it would've cost me for the nee power lead as the old one had been split, quite a saving.
As well as the sat nav capability its got speed camera alerts accident blackspots etc etc etc
Cool

You'll save ove 300 quid just with the speed camera alerts. I hear they have a dirt load of hiddencameras now.

But as I said to my mate, people that drive for a living look at the cost of these devices all wrong. They think, Hmmmm.....£300....If it saves me two or three times, its paid for itself....WRONG!
Think about it this way
You earn £36,000 per year...k?
Now divide that by 3.......Why 3 I hear you ask?
Because 4 is no good.......If you've been caught 4 times you're banned, that simple, based on basic 3 points for general speeding offences of course.
Now divide your salary by 3......Are you gettin where I'm going with this?
Thats £12,000 (essentially every time you get caught) although you may only get 3 points and a £60 - £100 fine.
You get caught 4 times, lose your licence and can't work...you've lost your £36k a year job!
Thats how to look at speed camera detectors!
