Mike X, when I cut Nav's exhaust system, I cut about 1" away from the muffler. I "think" the service joint that they are talking about is the welded joint right at the muffler. That would be about the only joint near where you would need to do this mod.
If you need more help, let me know. If you are wondering about this job. Don't. it is really straight forward. I do recommend a sawzall as it makes the job much easier than trying to get through the factory pipe with a hacksaw.

h2OBoy, get your car over to my house. That is when the real fun starts. I have fun doing this sort of thing. Through helping, we not only help that person, but we help ourselves. My house looks like an auto repair place. I perpetually have vehicles flowing through my place needing all sorts of stuff done to them.

Thanks for the offer thermo, I'll definitely take you up on that. Never been in those neck of the woods, it'd be a nice drive down. Would be nice to finally meet you in person as well. I'll be in touch around middle of May.
