Need to know x-type low-gear shifting
sorry for the constant questions. Im new to the ownership of a jaguar and this forum. My certified mechanic(brother-in-law, lol) told me to replace my shifter because it will not go out of park. I went and bought a shifter and when it came my brother in law looked at it and said its missing a part for the low gears(4,3,2). I returned it and got another one and it has the same problem. I searched and all the ones that i found had the same part missing. I took it to the dealer and asked them if there should be a part that needs to be there and they said yes, but they only sell the whole unit. I figured maybe the shifter just comes that way because all of the shifters i came in contact with had the same problem. I included pictures below(attachments) can anyone tell me how the low-hear shifters work? Do they work electrically, without the pawl? Or is there really a part missing? Please let me know, your help is greatly appreciated. And if someone has pictures please include it, thank you soo much
p.s i checked the bottom of the shifter handle and did not see any marking of any kind it looks like new no part missing please advice thank you

X Type Auto Gear Shifter
Before your mechanic recommended a new shifter, did he confirm that the problem was not just one of the following 'easier' possibilities/solutions?
'Not-in-Park' microswitch in J Gate failed (Easy/cheap to fix!)
Gearshift interlock solenoid in J Gate failure
Brake light switch operating correctly (Two switches in one)
And, without wishing to sound patronising, pressing brake pedal to release gear shifter! It has been known!!

Anyway, there is a hall effect sensor (magnetic) that senses when the shifter is moved left and right between D to 4. This results in no cable movement when shifting between those two positions, because the shifter is being moved from one cable (P to D) to a second cable (4 - 2). So once the shifter is in 4 you should be see that second arm move back and forth when sliding between 4 and 2.
