Fez, when you say the $70 ebay HIDs, I am assuming you are talking about just replacing the bulbs, not getting the true HID headlights. There is a slight difference between the two.

Now, with that being said, I am one of the people that have installed HID bulbs into my car. Granted, I did them on the fog lights, not the head lights. IT isn't a hard job, but be prepared for a little bit of fabrication work. If you look back through the posts, you will see where I did a step by step for atleast the fog lamps of what I did. Not a hard job, but be prepared for more than simply cutting 2 wires and mounting the bulb in the back of the headlight assembly. Also, please note that HID bulbs are polarity sensitive. So, you need to make sure that the positive wire for the HID assemblies are connected to the positive wire for the headlights.

2005's have most of the kinks worked out.

Does it not have DSC? I thought the new, non-VC transfer case required DSC in order for the AWD system to transfer power (e.g. active braking of a slipping wheel). I'd double check that.

Take the car for a test drive and always start COLD. Do not let the dealer warm the car up for your convenience. I did test drives with an ex-gf a couple of years ago and it's amazing the plethora of grinding sounds you hear on a -10oF day. It will also isolate sources of vibration. Namely, it will separate cold tire vibration from more serious driveline issues, which is a common X-Type complaint.

No extended warranty on mine; I've decided to put up with the non-sense issues on my older 2003 (small leak in oil pan gasket/9 hours labor; inaccurate fuel gauge/another laborious job). Had I paid for those repairs, I'd still be less than break-even on a $2500 extended warranty (assuming $0 deductible), and I've owned my car for a half dozen years now.

Lastly, if you live anywhere near snow, buy aftermarket rustproofing.

Default 2005 Estate

Bought mine in August 2008. Had just over 14,000 klics on the odometer, and warranty good to October 2009. Phenomenal car compared to my numerous daily drivers in the past.

Local dealer has been excellent with regard to service and a prop-shaft replacement owing to a noisy, in cold temperatures, centre shaft bearing.

I truly will say this is the finest car I have ever owned, except for the vintage 1969 E-type which I have treasured and maintained since 1972.

Of course, like comparing apples and oranges with regard to the pair of Jags.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Bruce

X2 on the cold start as suggested.

I have projectors and can see fine at night, FWIW.

If you decide on an extended warranty, my advice would be to purchase one shortly before the factory warranty expires. You will get the best price at that time.

I suggest you have the car examined by an independent mechanic prior to purchase, if possible.

Good luck!
