New X-Type Estate owner with couple o questions

First a bit of introduction. I am a 57 y/o divorced, colorblind, hetrosexual, whiteguy with my first Jaguar. I have driven primarily BMW's for the past 20 years and my last car was an 08 MINI Clubman S. The Clubman is a very fun car that handles like it is on rails, has gobs of power and gets great fuel mileage. It was also just the right size for my two greyhounds, Grace and Diane. So how did I get to an X-Type? I blame it on my son. He has been driving a 1985 euro 635 for the past several years and he decided that he wanted to upgrade. He went through lots of machinations about what to do. He drove an 04 XJ and fell in love. He ultimately bought an 04 VDP with about 35k miles. I drove it. Then I got back in my Clubman with sport suspension and realized how punishing the ride was for my Lyme infested body and multiple degenerative disks. I had never considered Jaguar before because of the history. I started researching as Josh was looking at XJ's and then much more as I started looking. For me the X-type Estate was the only choice. The girlz must be comfortable and I am frequently hauling stuff from the Church of the Home Depot. Sooo, I found an 05 with 38k miles (white with tan) NAV and all the other goodies, CPO'd for another 2 years. The car is spotless and well cared for. I am very impressed with the comfort and feel of the car. My biggest complaint is that the fuel mileage is 1/3 less that what I was getting. Oh, well. On to the questions:
1. Anyone know the production numbers for Sportwagon's?
2. How much of the X-Type is Mondeo/Contour. My belief is that perhaps the basic chassis pan is Ford but, not the rest. The turn signal stalk feels more Fordish than European. I have had two friends drive it and they both said that is certainly does not feel like a Ford.
This is a great forum and I am delighted to be here with my new Jaguar.

Taken from the book''The X Type..The inside story of the most
important Jaguar ever''
''In the end the percentage of donor parts from Mondeo to X Type is
actually no more than 20% and of this most are bits you don't see
like wiper mechanisms and air conditioning systems. The most
significant carry-overs are suspension, brakes and basic engine
block. But so much work has been done on each of these components by
Jaguar that it hardly seems fair or accurate to describe them as
Ford cast-offs.For example the Macpherson strut front suspension
has been so comprehensively redesigned** to maximise ride
refinement and eliminate torque steer that it would be barely
recognisable to a Ford engineer. The rear suspension is from the
Mondeo estate not the saloon as it uses a more compact version of
the multi-link setup which allows for a lower boot floor and
greater ride refinement.''
**The Mondeo uses single tube Macpherson struts and the X type
enginners redisigned these into a better twin tube strut.
Hope this helps somewhat but it is a 65 page A4 book so just tried
to outline a liitle bit of it!
Dont worry about this, nearly every car and van on the road shares one thing or another with another model.Even some Saabs use GM (thats Vauxhall parts) when the parts for them arrive at our bodyshop from the Saab dealers.Mazda 1 IS a Ford Fiesta only difference are the badges.VW Lupo is the EXACT same car as a SEAT AROSA only difference are the badges.Seat Leon doors are the same as VW Golf doors (I should know we just fitted a one to a Seat the other week when Seat couldnt get one but VW could!).
Vauxhall Movano is a Renailt Traffic (headlights come from Vauhall dealer with Renault stamp and part number on part).VW/Skoda/Audi/Seat have a vast array of shared parts which is why there is a new trade parts distributor called TPS which sell parts to the trade for these vehicles which saves us having accounts at VW one at Audi one at Skoda...you get the picture.
The final paint finish at Jaguar is checked by laser to within 100 microns (the Mondeo isnt) and which car won the Top Gear Car of the Year 2001 Award (the Mondeo did).
Jag have redesigned a lot of the parts.

Enjoying my X-Type 2005 Diesel estate but feel there is more to it than the manual says. Would like to find out more. Thanks

Fredd77, I'm near you and I also have a X Type Estate Diesel. I got it last week, and I love it! It's going to be a fantastic car when I get everything sorted out.
The X Type was the perfect vehicle change from my 1999 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 V8, as I need to save some cash now things are a little tighter. I chose the X for the practical reasons, and the 2.2 Diesel will pull a house, so will pull our stock cars no problem. Also it was built in Liverpool, which was another reason I chose it!![Wink](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
It's funny actually, because I too don't like the way the indicator leaver feels, but I can get used to that for 60MPG!!!

On page 6 of "X400_en_US.pdf X Type 2001 to 2006" on the "X type FAQ " quick links " model specs / info / accessories" thread it says that all T-Types were assembled at Halewood.

I think 'X' represents Halewood. Other X-Type owners may be able to verify this.

>Pab - Did this give a link / file for the inside story? Could not find one?
Look for a sticky thread in this form titled: " X type FAQ " quick links " model specs / info / accessories"
It is one of the documents listed in the first posting there.

>I have tried but still cannot find the "Inside Story" file in any of the links suggested. I must be more challenged than I thought!
Its not an Inside Story, its the first posting on the
Sticky: X type FAQ " quick links " model specs / info / accessories
thread in the forum contains a list of interesting links with information about X-Type. One of those links
(X400_en_US.pdf X Type 2001 to 2006)
is a pdf file containing information such as which countries geographical groups of cars, what various regions are for the DVD, VIN codes (showing that all X-Types were assembled in Halewood...), diagrams showing the locations of the serial numbers and control modules, body color codes, and interior colors.
Couldn't be easier...
