No reverse gear after changing box and replacing oil
Hi all
i need some much needed help cars been off the road for too long my problem started when i changed the automatic gearbox in my 2.0l v6as my other one got hit from underneath and broke the gear selector rodgot a local mechanic who has knowledge onjaguar cars he put gearbox infor me made surethe engine turnedwith the gearbox in by hand put oil in that after searching found out usedTEXACO N-402 now known as TEXACO ATF-402 which i sourced from land rover filled it to the top diduse the procedure from jaguartook the car for a drive made sure it drove in the gears drove perfectly until i tried to reverse it upin to my drive which has a slightuphill slope the car wouldnt go up revved it the engine would judder and the gearbox would make a noisewhen i moved the car foward back on the roadwhich is a flat surface i put the car in reverse the car would go back at a snail place but as soon as i revved the car it would just judder
now a mechanic has told me that there is a nut near the driveshaft that i could remove this nut and allowsa rodinside the gearbox to move into reverse and then i could replace the nut and this will allow the car to go into reverse as there mitebe fluid stuck in there that needs to be removed
if any body has gone through this problem please could you let me knowhow they got this problem sorted iam really p****d off with this problem
cheers

Other possibilities are some dirt or debris left stranded when you drained the old fluid is blocking an internal valve or gallery.
Don't panic and think the worst, a few dollars spent getting some professional advice will be money well spent.
Avoid driving your car, if possible get someone 'out' to look at your car.
I'm not a mechanic and like others have myself made simple problems worse by the wrong action. However modern automatic gearboxes are inherently more reliable than manuals and are quite forgiving. The trick is correct maintainence and not running them over great distances if a problem does occur.
