Default Noise at Low speed when Braking

Jaguar X type AWD 2.5 Auto. When coming to a halt ( gently ), I get a noise/graunching sound from the front of the car. It sounds like the brake pads are worn to the metal but are not as they have been replaced. This usually happens at speeds of less than 5 mph. The pedal does not pulse. I have been told that this is a common fault on X types and is due to the ABS sensor being dirty. Anyone suggest what is wrong?

Abs sensor wont make a noise but what you can do is take the wheel off and make sure theres some grease where the brake pads lay and slide to the rotor, make sure all pins are greases as well and if it aint it you might find something that is making that noise while your at it.

I do not think that greasing the pads etc will do anything.

The noise only occurs under very gentle braking and at low speed.

There is no noise when I brake hard to a stop or at any other time.
Braking is normal under regular driving conditions .. no pulling or judders.

Also the noise only lasts for a half second or so.

As I said, it is not the rear brakes but the front.

There is no smell and the noise is only when gently braking to a halt i.e. at very low speed.

The noise appears to come from the front of the car.

Any resolution? What was the problem?

Nothing as yet.

I've been too busy of late to look at the car.

Most likely cause of this malady is slighty out of round or 'lumpy' rotors or pads. Only catches the pads when they are --just-- touching the rotors, as soon as they hit meat, the noise stops.

That's assuming the slots are clean and lubed so the pads move freely.

The good news is that it will fix itself in a few hundred miles of city driving.

I have the same kind of issue. Low speed. And occasional. Not every time. Just as the car is coming to a stop (gentle stop... not talking about screeching to a halt here)... I get almost like an ABS "buzz" coming from the brake pedal. ABS light never comes on. ABS does work as I tested it in winter. Obviously no snow right now, but .... brakes seem otherwise fine.

I have exactly the same problem, sometimes when almost coming to a stop a noise from the front, no pulsing and nothing coming up when scanned. Did anyone find a resolution?

Default Unintentional ABS

I had the same issue where my 2003 x-type would give a brake pedal pulsation and make a noise when braking lightly or heavily at low speeds (below 10 mph). Brakes were done recently (all 4 rotors & pads replaced) so thought it could have been a mechanical issue with a rotor, such as a warped or rough rotor.

One way to check if the problem is ABS, I disconnected the battery negative, then TEMPORARILY removed the ABS fuse (60 A fuse), reconnected battery and drove around the block slowly. The pulsating, judder, and brake noise went away.

Given this test, I believe unintentional ABS is the cause, now I can troubleshoot the ABS at each wheel, and stop thinking about warped rotors.
