Non starting Diesel X type :(

Hi there,
I just bought a beautiful X Type 2.0D estate on a 06 plate.
All was fine, until Friday when it refused to start and sounded like the battery had lost charge enough to turn the starter quick enough to fire.
I charge battery overnight last night when booster cables failed yesterday to coax the starter into life. I'm told that's a common-ish issue and that ECU won't allow a jump start if the battery is below a certain thresh hold?
Now even with the fully charged battery back on the car the starter is doing nothing at all. I can hear the fuel pump hum faintly into life and the dash appears totally normal. But no starting.
Help...........

Do you know any history of the car? Did it happen to sit awhile before it was sold? Any idea how old the battery is? As you mentioned, the X-Type is sensitive to seeing the correct voltage. If you said it would not start with jumper cables could be a sign that maybe your battery needs to be changed. Simplest thing to try is to get the battery load tested. That might confirm it might need to be changed. If the battery is several years old, it might be a good idea to just change it out. Batteries can go without any warning.

Thanks Alfadude, the Bosch battery looks like new to be quite honest. It charged up fine with no issues at all...... I can get it checked tomorrow, but the way the X Type is behaving I'm thinking it's more in the immobiliser realm or the solanoid.... all very frustrating a a car I've only had since Tuesday.....

Just because the fob will lock and unlock the doors does not mean that the battery therefore has enough juice to start the car. If you had an immobilizer issue chances are you would see some flashing lights on the red LED near the shifter for the security system. Before you start getting ahead of yourself, start with the simplest thing first, especially if there were no issues before this happened.
Good luck. I hope you get this sorted soon and can back to enjoying your new purchase.

Problem solved.........
One dead starter motor....... It looked like the original from 2006 in all honesty.
After a bit of elimination investigation,
Battery at 12.8 volts and looked new, complete with a paper till receipt with a hand written 10/1/16 on it. It's fair to assume that was purchase date in fairness.
Then a gentle thump in the starter while ignition engaged caused a sickly grunt from the starter and a hum.
So of EURO Car Factors and £94 later a new starter was inserted into the miniscule place provided. After removing battery and tray for purchase and sticking the X Type on ramps for access.
Once in place, presto! JOB SOLVED!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone for their input! Now a very happy X Type owner again.
