Not Starting
Hi anybody please help !
My Xtype was working just fine, I tried to start a hour or two later and the engine was turning over, but not firing. Have now tried many times, battery okay - but no go. I get the amber light on and the message Cruise control not available
Anyone got any ideas ?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Ray

Hi Ray this could be regarding fuse #92, This is a post from Thermo who is spot on!
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rt-help-17013/
Just in case that doesnt help you, try this on the throttle body censor:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-sensor-86984/
Hope that gets you on the road in good tether? Stu
Also, if you want to say thanks, please thank Thermos post as I stole it. CHEERS

I have now replaced the fuse (although old looked ok) the error code disappeared - but still the car would not start. The battery went dead very quickly so I replaced with a new one. I then after many attempts to start the car - it finally burst into life. I turned off and once again had to persevere and eventually after many attempts got it running. Leaving the car running this time. The engine appeared to run smoothly - although I noted the yellow system malfunction light on (the one that the manual recommends you to drive straight to a dealer) I seemed to remember reading somewhere this does eventually go out and resets after a few Kms running. Anyway after a short drive came home - light still on and turned off. Restarting once again not happening on the first dozen attempts, so gave up and I hitting the keys to you again.
Hoping this is not a throttle body problem, what do you think ?

The light would eventually go off after a number of driving cycles if the condition that caused the light to go on is no longer present. I think that number is like 5-6 times and it needs to see a certain speed for a certain amount of time. It's not a matter of just starting the car a number of times. However, it sounds like you still have some sort of issue going on. Best thing would be to have the codes read and report back here and someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi Ray,
I would source an OBDII scanner, mmembers like Thermo would be able to advise more, but if unsure, post again as that's what the forum is all about, many members are superb and we want to get you sorted.
This is a link for bluejag on the OBDII scanner:
http://www.bluejag.co.uk/X-Type%20OB...infomation.php
Here's the link for the glove box fuse guide:
http://www.bluejag.co.uk/passengerbayfusebox.php
As for the fusebox, #92.
There is also a post here by Jfenley who is a pro at these things, post 3 has a guide on fuses too!
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ram-faq-10712/
When you are struggling to start the car, after a few attempts, is she idling okay after that?
Thanks Ray, keep us posted? Stu nps, I don't think the car has to go anywhere just now, hang in there!!
Pps, the light you refer to is what most of the guys here understand to be the CEL, Check Engine Light , it does mean GET IT SEEN TOO!
BUT, there can be many reasons why, some simple, others quite drastic, but don't panic, take a step back and chill, is there anything that may have enduced this situation, like a wire loose, a jolt to the car or just anything especially water, cold weather or something just NOT QUITE RIGHT?
I am sure it is 100% electric, fuse, starter, solenoid or somewhere inbetween. I have to dash but keep cool, the guys here are all listening out!!

Intermittent runner
Stuart
I have today ordered the OBD II scanner, particular for a Jaguar and must await its arrival. My neighbour who runs his own car repair business has one so I will ask him to check my car out tomorrow.
The fault was mysterious really, had been using the jag that day with no problems, parked up gave it a wash and thereafter the problem occurred - cannot see that the wash water could have caused the fault. I have had no impact jolts to blame either.
When I did get it going, apart from the Engine Malfunction light it ran very well, only it would not start again.
I note you think it electrical, must see what the scan says' tomorrow, will keep you posted.
I have a diagram of the fuses now.
Stuart thanks once again for your much valued assistance - the forum is a great place to be when trouble starts.

Its got to be electrical in my mind,
Thermo would be THE GUY TO ASSIST!!!
OR, Throttle Body/TPS.
Sorry i cant be there to help!
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-sensor-86984/
But regardless, if your neighbour is good to go (help!) the throttlebody can be cleaned with carb cleaner or something sililar?
The reason I suggest is that others have had a similar issue with struggling to start and cutting out/timing.
Just in case it is the water, you may want to look at this by Thermo, POST #4 is what you will need.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ilable-115566/
That will be it if as you say, she was sound before this issue arose?
Good luck tomorrow, Ray

How did you get on today?
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ese-out-93340/
PS, post 2 is critical
This is the official diagnosis, but still difficult to tell!

The code P1582 is consistently displayed on each scan - this one appears the kiss
of death, as no one appears to really understand what it is. I am having the car further tested tomorrow my guy reckons it is a TPS or manifold censor problem, but definitely electrical. Trust me to get an awkward situation, I would have preferred a ' Thats the faullt and the spare part will cost X ' and get on and fix it. Anyway Stuart I will keep you in the picture.
Thanks once again
Ray

Do you also have the MIL on? The code will be stored for ages even with MIL off but that would also mean it's not a current problem.
If MIL on, it's due to one of the issues in the codes PDF so not much choice but to work through and figure which one is the problem.

I just added this, as you just posted.
MIL is Malfunction Indicator Light, the same as CEL, Check Engine Light, the AMBER engine warning light Ray
Hi Ray, I got this info from www.bluejag.co.uk
{Fault Code:- P1582 Indicates a Power-train fault
The fault is generally due to a problem in the Vehicle Speed & Idle Control area
Fault Description: “Flight recorder” data is stored if any one of five conditions occur:
Action of ECM:- none
After clearing the DTC, complete the 1 Inertia switch activated 2 Throttle Limp Home mode 3 Engine starts and stumbles 4 Engine fail to start 5 Engine stall
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.
Possible Fault:- If none of the five conditions occur, check: Inertia switch to ECM circuit, short circuit to B+ voltage Inertia switch failure}
Also I looked at this:
http://www.bluejag.co.uk/Jaguar-XT-T...s/XT303-04.pdf
Page 17 details that P1582 shows:
DTC P1582 will be logged if a fault has occured with the Throttle Position Sensor .
This is not a throttle fault code, but is used for information only.
(See Technical Bulletin
XT303-01, but I cannot source it!
But at least the pdf shows the checks to get there!
Hang in there Ray! Stu
