I just found info that details the following:

The data recorder basically retains certain information like a black box and in certain situations the inertia switch triggers causing the furl (edit: spellcheck FUEL) pump to cut off!

Could this be what we are looking for, you hinted at me knowing the issue, but I am only trying to help and I apologise as I feel that I am confusing you and thus am making it harder for you!!

I would mention this last info to your car dealer neighbour as I feel this problem is only going to go round in circles, i hope it's the fuel cut-off as that would be relatively easy to sort?

The point about the MIL is that if off you can ignore P1582 (a very special jag code) and an ordinary tool won't clear it.

I do thank you for your valuable assistance. I reckon you are right this is going round in circles and I have the rope and currently looking for a suitable tree !
I did try the inertia switch reset almost immediately and in fact since done it more times. When I try turning the car over I can hear the fuel pump working.
I am going to short circuit this problem, bite the bullet and get it to a specialist diagnostic centre on Monday. I will let everyone know what the problem eventually turns out to be for future assistance generally.

I do thank you for this - certainly is a problem to reset. I will give the info to the specialist who is looking at my vehicle next monday. A full explanation of the necessary fix and repair thereafter will be coming your way once I have it.

Having finally got my jaguar back I as promised update you on what transpired.
Firstly I took the car into a specialist of some 30 years experience for diagnosis. He told me my car had not (prior to my ownership) been properly maintained - specifically that the spark plugs had never been replaced -being the originals when new, oil changing and lubrication not done very often. He also spoke to me about the fuel rail and petrol regulator, quoting extortionate replacement costs. Recommended a complete service - also not cheap. I decided in any case maybe a proper service was the best way to start.
The upshot was that after nearly weeks with him I got my vehicle back and a large bill, the car was apparently fixed. However within hours - although starting properly and running very nicely, the engine warning light was illuminated. I contacted the engineer, he then says it is a lambda sensor problem (there are 4 of them - exhaust & petrol up/downstream monitors) reckons he cleaned them but no guarantee they would last - and so it proved.
Basically I have my vehicle back starting well but the work is unsatisfactory.
I notice now that as the fuel and air mixtures are not being properly managed via the sensors - fuel economy is not so good (previously it was okay).
The Cypriot engineer I went to is a qualified Jaguar mechanic from the UK and does know the xtype very well, but he is however driven by the desire to have me finance his retirement fund in quick time.
Staurt, I have ordered two lambda sensors - do you have and information/guidance on how to replace them or know where I can get it ?.
